    Choose a realistic weight loss goal
    Weigh and measure everything
    Log your food accurately and honestly
    Eat the calories MFP gives you
    Eat the things you enjoy within your calorie allowance
    Excercise for fitness
    Be patient
    Be consistant
    Don't give up

    Don't beat yourself up if you falter. It's normal, and probably won't make a jot of difference in a long term lifestyle change as long as you pick up where you temporarily left off. Log everything, even items you feel embarrassed or guilty about having eaten. Your diary is for you and you alone, to see where you can make changes and help yourself to foster and sustain your new eating habits.
