protein based meat substitutes

Just started trying to cut way down on meat protein. bought some vegetable meat pattys and they were pretty bad but then I found a vegan restaurant in the San Diego area that has lots of great foods made with vegetable based meats and everything I have tried has been excellent. Any one have favorite recipes or restaurant chains for this type of food. Is Vegetable protein better for the body than meat protein if the Doctors are saying it less meat.

I think the doctors/governments aren't really good at communicating what they mean. Too much of anything is bad - you can eat anything in moderation; a healthy diet is balanced and varied.

But people are also generally really bad at picking up nuances, so I'm not giving the authorities all the blame. All information is available to everybody these days, it's our personal responsibility to think critically and use common sense.

Well no, everyone can not eat anything in moderation. For some medical conditions certain things must be severely limited. in diabetes its Carbs and Sugars, in Kidney disease it’s Protein and Potassium. When you have both it seems like everything.

Did you doctor give you any sort of printouts about what you should eat? What did they tell you about legumes?

Because you still have questions and have specific medical conditions, you should ask your doctor for a referral to a Registered Dietitian (not a nutritionist without a formal education/certification.)

Two great non meat proteins are eggs and tofu. Find out if your doctor meant less meat or less protein.

The meat substitute you had, do you know if it was seitan? You can make that at home and flavor it just how you like it.

I’m betting the veggie burger was based on TVP, which is from soy.

Try this burger, which uses black beans.

Do you have those two illnesses? If so, you would have to talk to your doctor and get a referral to a dietician. Specific conditions means you have to take special precautions. This forum is for general queries. You asked about a specific range of foods, worded in a very general style.
