Carbs Intake

MFP set my calories at 1700, with a goal of 1lb a week. I just started working out which includes around 20 mins a day on the elliptical. I'm 5'7 196. Wondering if I go in manually change my carbs to 20% in MFP is that to low? I just feel like 227g is way to much. Where do you guys set yours? And does high carbs slow weight loss?

I usually do 40/30/30 carbs/protein/fat when I'm not working out. And I do 50/25/25 when I'm on a training schedule since the bulk of what I do is running/cardio with some strength workouts because I run races.

I find that if I drop my carbs too low, even when not working out, I feel like crap. Headaches, grumpy, tired, stuff like that. I also lose weight better when I have a good amount of carbs in my macros.

    But that's me.

Other people do way better with lower carb diet plans. They thrive on high protein/high fat and that's the best way for them to lose weight.

There is no yes or no. No right or wrong, when it comes to eating plans for weight loss. It's what works best for you, your body, and what you're most likely to stick to in the long term to get to your goal and then maintain.

So take everything posted one way or another with a grain of salt, and find out what works best for you through your own experiences. Just remember to give any new change at least a solid month before evaluating to make additional changes. Your body needs time to adapt and figure out how it's going to respond and that isn't going to happen in just a week or two.

    Good luck!

I have noticed that since being on low carb it has caused constipation, bloating. I think I need my whole grains, fruits and veggies back.
