Am I hungry or just don't want to be?

Sometimes when I am calorie counting I have problems knowing if I am really not hungry or I just don't want to eat because I don't want to gain weight. Does anyone else have this problem? Any ideas or solutions to combat this? Thanks.

Hi @katrinaziemer
Such a good question!
I calculate my deficit (Calories Burned - calories eaten) & if it’s not over 300 calories at that point I the say, I don’t eat. I drink water, find something fun to do, and usually go for a walk aka a stroll! This works for me.
I use my Apple Watch with the FitIV app to calculate my energy Burned.
For instance, I had a VeryRare sugary carb for breakfast today which has made me very hungry. I also ate a very rare burger & fries. Still hungry (which is why I don’t eat sugar & white flour usually). I exercised. Now I’m waiting my hunger out as my metabolism uses up those foods. My calorie surplus is now 216. So I’ll wait until it’s a 200-300 deficit before I let myself eat. I likely will go for a walk soon to burn off some of those carbs & get to eat sooner!
I don’t really trust my feelings of being hungry or not hungry, as I would never have been overweight/obese if I could! Using these numbers has helped me tremendously.1
