Need to stop my bad eating habits.

Hi, I retired six days ago and am ready to focus on healthy eating. I've always exercised and kept my weight at a reasonable point. But over the last year, I've gained close to ten pounds and can no longer fit in many of my clothes. My downfall is candy. I've never met a candy that I didn't like. Currently, I have an adult child who lives at home and frequently brings candy home, and I help eat it.

My biggest problem is that I wake up in the middle of the night and can't go back to sleep. So I go in the kitchen and eat a fourth meal then I easily go back to sleep. This habit has been going on for years, and I know it is just a habit.

I'd like to get to know some other people who are working on overcoming some bad eating habits.

The mindless habits are the worst. I've come up with nothing but will power. I have several foods I will not allow in the house. I became a 'qualitarian' quite a while ago. I decided if I was going to eat candy, cookies, etc it had to be high quality and 'worth it'. That was a bad idea because I did not control my portions and yes too much of a good thing is still too much. I am a constant nibbler. So I decided I had to log EVERYTHING. If I wasn't going to take the time to log it, it wasn't worth taking the time to eat it.

Blah-blah-blah get a hobby, keep your hands busy, chew gum, I discovered I can easily multi-task, and I can easily eat while chewing gum.

Turns back to sheer will power - mind over matter - it stinks, but when you get through a day it feels great !
