    You lose weight by reducing calories. It doesn't matter how or what you eat if you just want to lose weight. If you want to improve your health at the same time, eat smaller portions of starchy carbs at each meal, eat regularly, eat less sugar, have sweets, cookies, fast food, pastries etc in moderation, use healthier fats like olive oil, get fats from foods like avocados and unsalted nuts, eat more vegetables, beans, pulses, whole grains, lean proteins, fruit, lower fat dairy produce, and watch your portion sizes. Log everything you eat and keep within your calorie totals.

    I've done it a few years. I find it quite easy to maintain.

    TBH, the THOUGHT of starting was much worse than actually doing it. ;):)
