Low sodium anyone?

I am new to MFP since mid July. I joined for one reason, to track my sodium, and since I need to continue to drop some weight, I do that as well. The last 5 yrs I had some serious medical issues, and 5 different docs told me to be on a low sodium diet, in addition to exercising. I always said that we did not even have salt in our house, and that I never added salt to anything. I was exercising, counting calories and losing weight, was pretty fit from exercise, and thought I was eating reasonably healthy. When one condition worsened, my doc told me about MFP, and I learned that instead of consuming 1500 - 2200 mgs of sodium per day, I was often at 4000 mgs and sometimes 5000 mgs a day. All while counting my calories and losing weight. Everything I was eating had lots of sodium. A slice of multigrain bread - 190 mg per slice. A flour tortilla 490 mg per tortilla. My favorite on the go fast food breakfast, within my calorie plan, was a single Wendy’s sausage/egg burrito with one packet of hot sauce, almost 900 mgs of sodium in that little bit. No wonder my body revolted.
I noticed at the grocery store, all pork products and chicken products seem to be high in sodium. Is someone injecting salt solution into all the meat? It seems that I am limited to beef - steak and ground beef - and eggs, if I am to remain following a low sodium plan. Is there such a thing as low sodium pork or chicken somewhere, that I just don’t know where to look?
I would be interested to hear from any MFP members who really track low sodium. Good luck to all in the pursuit of being fit.

I think you're supposed to cook more from scratch, and not add more than a little salt, if necessary. You have to read the label to see if the item has added salt. Poultry seems to be a bit heavier on the sodium, but I think you're doing well if you just cook a lot from scratch.0
