Hi
I'm new to the forum here (not the app though).
After massively struggling with weight gain for the last few years and feeling constantly awful unless I ate constantly I attempted to diet about 18 months ago, ignored how awful I felt thinking it was in my head and would pass, within days my blood sugar dropped so low I collapsed at work. Cut to multiple hospital stays, a barrage of tests and confused consultants and I was eventually diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder that causes hyperinsulinism and therefore constant hypoglycaemia. A constant BM monitor showed my blood glucose was never above 6 and sat between 2 and 3.5 for most of the day, dropping down to 1.4 on occasion. So it's no wonder I felt so lethargic and rubbish!
Now thanks to medication this has come up and I feel so much better. I can still be prone to hypos but I have noticed this is much worse after carb or sugar heavy food so (under dietician guidance) I am as of today on a low carb diet to try and control my blood sugar and lose some weight.
Current weight is 194lbs my heaviest ever. I'm most worried about having a hypo at work so I've started this while I have 2 weeks off. My willpower feels strong right now but I really love carbs (I don't have a sweet tooth at all but love bread and pasta etc). So I think this is going to be hard. Wish me luck
