Hello MFP Friends,
I was doing really good and avoiding eating after dinner. But lately it seems that I have been getting hungry. I had been trying to not eat anything two hours before bed, but the last two nights have been hard. What are some foods that I should be eating that will fill me up?

Is there a specific reason you are giving up night snacks?
I always tend to leave some calories ~200-350 for the evening so I can enjoy something and not feel deprived.
Some things I have in the evening - a protein shake (especially when my numbers are low), an apple sliced in a bowl with cinnamon, then microwaved for a minute and topped with 1tbsp of peanut butter, I've seen myself eating steak or chicken (when I have no carbs left and need protein), 1 slice of toast with 2tbsp of peanut butter..
And water or herbal tea!0 -
I don't like to eat late at night. I'd rather have something to sip on rather than much. I'll have some spiced milk, hot chocolate, or whiskey. I do my nighttime yoga, take a shower, then have my drink while I read a little bit or watch tv. It's a great way to wind down for me. I know not everyone is going to do yoga, shower, or read, but I think that some tea, milk, or something warm to drink is a great way to fill up your belly, calm you for sleep, and still give you something to enjoy.0

Edit: Oh! My husband eats seeds as a late night snack. The ones that you have to crack. He says the extra work helps him eat less. So that's another option!0 -

Usually a sign of lack of enough calories during the day if you're craving food. Mixed with some workouts and adequate caloric intake, you get less cravings.
But back to the main topic, usually eating some protein helps me stay full longer. Sure veggies and low calorie carbs help you feel full while eating but that won't last long. *kitten* some nice, juicy chicken to the diet!0 -
I know the common belief is that evening snacking is ok if it's within your calories and macros. I also know what the scale tells me the next morning.
Try avoiding all starchy carbs at dinner. If I have to eat bread pasta rice or potatoes, I do it at lunch. That way there's no big blood sugar spike (and consequent fall) right before bed.
If I absolutely have to have something in the evening, it's usually a handful of almonds.0 -
Thank you for all your advice.0
