Water Aerobics

I am going to be adding water aerobics to my exercise plan starting next Monday. I will be going Monday and Wednesday at 545 p.m. this leaves me about 20 minutes after work at home to let the dog out, grab my work out stuff and a quick snack. Then after the class is over I will be home about 715 pm. and will have to eat dinner. Should I have carbs or protein for the snack? And since I will be eating late, what kind of food options should I have for dinner? I usually go to bed by 9.

I do my acquagym in the morning after 40 min of swimming. I start at 8:30 so I have a light breakfast at 7:20. I usually have something like greek yogurt, a banana, etc... that digests easily and won't weigh me down. You will need to see yourself what gives you enough energy. I've started having a small coffee with a splash of almond milk before I go out the door. It seems to give me a lift. I've been doing acquagym for 23 yrs now and it can be a great workout. As for what you eat when you get home, I'd say what you normally eat. Be careful though, swimming can make you ravenous so watch your portions.0

My aquafit classes are 6-7pm and I'm home by 7:15.
Pre class I don't have a purposeful snack, just eat what I usually eat. I do make sure I have a glass of water as I don't like keeping a water bottle by the pool.
Dinner, just a regular dinner ~125protein, ~100g potato, pasta, or rice, a whole pile of cooked veg or a salad.
If you are going to bed around 9pm, eat so you won't get indigestion if that is a problem.
If you feel you need a snack beforehand, maybe have it before you leave work.
There is enough movement, and ab work, in my class that I couldn't have a snack, even 1/2a banana, 20 min before hand and it sit comfortably through the class, YMMV.

I would suggest carbs before for energy and protein after for muscle repair.0

I love Aquafit classes. I agree with the post above: for me, if I'm hungry or feeling low on energy then a bit of fruit or something 90 to 120 mins before is good. Any sooner and it makes it's presence felt in the class. Dinner is as usual afterward... just be aware that if you don't normally eat at that time then a) you may feel uncomfortable at bed time and b) you may weigh more in the morning due to the food waste still in your system. Otherwise eat what fits your macros or your calories which ever version of MFP you do. At our level of fitness (average person) the whole carb and protein TIMING (Not quantity/quality) isn't as important (imo anyway).0

I swim laps for 60-90 minutes before my aqua fitness class 4x/week. My class starts at 5:35. I usually eat something around 3pm (2 hb eggs and an apple seems to work well). I can't NOT eat since lunch is around 12:30 and I would be out of gas in the middle of my swim if I didn't have something. I take water to my swim and to class. Depending on the instructor, my energy level, etc, I can drink a lot of water while working out.1
