I bet I would lose 70 pounds in nine months, my name is Tanya, Hello

I make homemade waffles and pancakes and was told I need to reduce my sugar and salt. I meet with a nutricianist and am trying to lose weight. I bet on healthywage.com that I would lose 70 pounds in 9 months, I hope I win the money. I quit smoking on 5/10 and quit pop today, no more pop only coffee and water. Still chew the nicotine gum.

    Thanks Mike, I hope I lose it before the nine months. I bet 25 a month and if I win, will get 987.00. Good motivation. I am excited to start and a lot of people think I can't do it, but I quit smoking and believe I will. The money is a big motivator but am tired of weighing so much and want to be lean. So ultimately I want to feel and look better, as we get older and I am 47 it gets harder to do. I am exercising 10-25 minutes a day and have a membership at a gym I would like to start using. Anyways, thanks for wishing me well!

    Welcome to the Community. :) I don't think kommodevaran was trying to be negative, but to give you a dose of reality. MFP promotes healthy, sustainable weight loss. It's one thing to challenge yourself to something that's realistic and achievable. It's another to challenge yourself to something random that's not realistic and could have negative physical consequences.

    I don't know which of the two you are doing, just offering some perspective. ;)

    You want to lose close to 2 pounds per week to reach this goal of 70 pounds in 9 months. In order to do that, you need a calorie deficit of approximately 1,000 kcals per day. This can come from a combination of eating less and moving more.

    I don't know your statistics, so I can't say if this is a good idea for you or not. I'll use random stats as an example:

    Female age 47
    Height 5 ft 6
    Current weight 220 lbs

    Using those stats and an online calculator, your BMR (that's your basic metabolic rate, how much you burn if you do nothing but sleep all day) would be 1,650 kcals. That's the minimum you would want to consume to stay healthy.

    Assuming a desk job and light exercise , your TDEE (that's your total daily energy expenditure) would be around 2,268 kcals.

    Now then you can see that if you take away 1,000 kcals from your TDEE, that drops you to 1,268 kcals - below your BMR. That's probably not healthy.

    If you're shorter or less active, there's less wiggle room with the numbers. If you want to play around with it, here's an online calculator: https://tdeecalculator.net/

    I make all my own homemade foods, I do not eat fast food but maybe three times a month. White castles I prefer. Waffles I use less sugar and no salt in the mix. With real maple surup and not the fake stuff. I cook like this, so I can still enjoy good foods and lose weight. Everything in moderation I was once told. So not to over eat. I have a easy chinese stir fry and italian pizza and speggetti. I make all my own homemade food and bake fries or wings, with no oil. Just as good as going out to a fancy restaurant. I love my Casadia recipe I got while hunting. Or homemade taco's with ortega. As long as you limit how many. I make a breakfast burrito. I always start out with a big breakfast. I usually do not eat lunch. Just a smoothie for lunch, I am planning and dinner before six oclock, is my plan. Hopefully will aid me in losing weight with less sugar and salt.

    My exercise so far is boxing-punching bag, trampoline jumping, hitting golf balls and dancing or exercise video of tae bo. I have a membership at a gym, but do not go. I would like to when I am down some pounds. At home am more motivated to workout. I have trouble getting myself to the gym.

    I am not 220, I weigh 300 lbs, I want to get down to 230 by May 28, 2019, Wish me luck. With no pop and less sugar and salt and using this app with all homemade cooking and exercising. I believe I can. I am gonna try, I will not snack on chips or such and eat breakfast with a smoothie for lunch and a good dinner, but less on my plate. I think it is attainable. Wish me luck.

    I wish you luck, and also determination and patience. :) Starting at 300 pounds you certainly can lose 2 pounds per week if you're disciplined. Log your foods here on MFP. Weigh and measure everything - this will help you know how much you're truly consuming and help you make adjustments along the way.

    While cooking at home gives you an advantage in controlling what goes in your food, whether you lose weight eating that food still depends on you being in a calorie deficit, so accurately tracking it is key. Maybe this will help:

    While I'm not a huge fan of arbitrary deadlines, as the previous poster said, 2 lbs/week at 300 lbs certainly is doable. Just follow your MFP recommendation for 2lbs/week faithfully. You won't lose exactly 2 lbs every week and it will slow down as you get smaller (as it should). Wish you success :)

    70lb in 9 months is just under 2lb a week. At the weight you gave this is not unreasonable, and IS achievable on here with self-discipline. Very best wishes. Maybe take some before and after pics to help with motivation in future...

    Good luck, @tanyanelson922 ! I hope you find this app as useful as I have. Measuring and tracking your food every day has been critical for me in making progress (50 pounds lost, just 75 to go!). However fast or slow things are moving on any given day, keep working and you can totally get there!

    Yes make adjustments as you reach your goal. Reset your metabolism. Find an activity that you love and do it! I ride horses and do yoga in my beautiful front yard! I never feel like I'm "working out".
