Taking body measurements

Hi! I'm pretty sure I'm doing it wrong. Problem seems to be that when I'm taking my measurements with the measuring tape, I never know how tightly or loosely to pull the tape. Biggest issues are my upper arm, upper leg and hips. There is loose fat and skin there, and I have no idea how to deal with that with measurements.
Good news is that no matter how I look at it, I've lost .5 to 1 inches in my waist, neck and calf. But I don't have loose skin and fat to deal with there.
Help?

I was hoping this convo had come up, but like you, I'm looking for answers.0

You want the tape to be snug, not tight and not loose. The tape should follow the surface of skin but not make an indentation in it. I recommend a myotape or similar. It has a fastener that you engage tnen it prevents the tape from rewinding or unwinding as you remove it from your skin to look at the number. Search on amazon. Makes it much easier to measure yourself or someone else.0

I'll add that you want to keep the tape parallel to the floor for upper legs and hips. Avoid having the tape crooked (higher in the back than in the front for example).0

really, as long as you measure the same way every time, it doesn't matter...however I believe the "correct" way is the "snug to the skin" without indenting.0
