No...we're trying to have a civilized society.1

No.
Maybe it's just me but I don't view it as acceptable professional behavior in an office.
To me it's not hygienic around others, especially to those in close proximity (line-of-sight and/or earshot).1 -
WTF is wrong with you.1
-
Don't do that.0

I get to hear the disgusting click click click several times a week. Ewwww.
Personal hygiene activities should be done in private.0 -
Glad were in agreement. It's effing disgusting. Someone may get a throat punch today.1

Well my office is in my house.....and i largely work alone.....so maybe i do it once in a while0

So I guess flossing is frowned on too?0

At your desk? Yes.0 -
God no.0

I'm gonna play devil's advocate here and say what's the big deal? I don't understand why people get grossed out by someone trimming a hangnail.1

That's different. No issue with that.1 -
Perhaps if he/she is doing it directly into their trash, I don’t see how it would be any different than blowing their nose into a tissue and tossing it into the bin. However if they are clipping away and wiping them onto the floor, or leaving them on on public surfaces, then I’d have an issue with it.
So glad I work from home and my coworkers are literal dogs.0 -
What about nail filing? Is this as gross?0
-
Probably not unless it is just one broken nail you clip to even it out quickly so you stop snagging it on things. If you need to clip all of your nails do it in the restroom, your car, or at home.
I'm not bothered by the sound or grossed out. I just think grooming yourself should probably not be done at your professional work desk at all. I think that includes filing nails, painting nails, plucking hairs, styling hair, applying makeup, shaving, applying deodorant or perfume/cologne, brushing teeth, or flossing.0 -
oh man imagine you just started working at a new job. you go in. they show you your office or cubicle or whatever. you sit down and get started. you arrange everything all nice the way you want it. you log in and start setting up your email sig and what not. you work all day and you're happy with the new place.
then at the end of the day, you look down and see loose fingernail clippings from the previous employee, that landed in the keyboard that you've been using all day.3 -
No ok.
But did you actually tell the person you saw doing this at work that it was Not ok?0 -

Dang, I wish I had a dollar for every time I've heard that.0 -

So, so, so many things...0 -
no
no filing
and please please please no plucking0 -
I think that is uncouth and unprofessional and all the other un's you can think of. Take that barbarism into the break room and do it over the sink so we really have something to talk about at the Christmas party.1

This made me laugh so damn hard1 -
Didn't think there was a right or wrong about it, but I usually do mine at home.0

I don't have an issue with it. I don't understand why people think it's so disgusting. But I can respect that others have different takes on what is disgusting. I don't do it unless it's something that really requires attention right then and there. I wouldn't just make that my regular nail trimming place. Just like I don't usually cut my own hair at my desk. I don't think it would be gross, but I still don' t do it.
I’m with you. I don’t get why it’s gross. I understand that I’m in the minority but for the life of me I can’t figure out what’s gross about it.
Now if someone is clipping their toe nails and they drop them in my Froot Loops.. that’s super not okay, Wanda!2 -

If Your Doing This Way
It Might Be Frowned Upon0 -
Ok... so last week one day I woke up with nail polish on that just had to come off...I'd 'patched it' too many times...brought my polish remover to work
...have nail trimmers in my giant girly bag of tricks....did trim one or two (in the x-ray room...not in 'public')
...and filed and oiled them
Am I totally gross?3 -
