Hey yos - I'm trying Trader Joe's cleanse/detox, starting today. Has anyone done it? Comments?

I have no idea if these things are useful, but I'm hoping it's at worst ineffective, and at best... hope to find out? :)

Can you take it back and return it?

Cleanses and detoxes are a waste of money. They don't do anything besides make you go to the bathroom more. Your body doesn't need a cleanse or detox... that's what your kidneys and liver are for.

Cleanses and detoxes can be dangerous. A friend of mine did one years ago (probably about 10 years ago). It messed up her digestive system so bad she still has issues now.

Agreed. There is ZERO scientific evidence that proves cleanses do anything..other than empty your wallet. I am sorry you fell for it, but TJs is very good about returns.

When I am feeling like I need to "clear out" I will stick to a veggie heavy diet (still 3 meals a day, plus snacks) and try to not eat *too* many processed foods. I also don't drink alcohol for the duration, which of course helps. :)
I would imagine that any benefits you are seeking you can get from a few days of this type of eating.

I agree as well. I have seen a lot of talk about these and they all say they are a total waste of time and money. They deplete your body of everything healthy and are really hard on you. Please take it back and just lose weight the healthy way. Work out, eat right and you will get there. The next 6 months will go by whether you work at it or not so I say, make good choices and see where you are then. Good luck!

Sorry, you're not likely to find many supporters of detoxes/cleanses/long-term fasts here.

I'm just curious that you didn't ask question BEFORE you bought it and plan on starting.

Cleanses and detoxes are the 21st century snake oil. There's no science behind them, your digestive system (in the absence of certain chronic diseases) does an admirable job of cleansing itself one or more times a day. If in doubt eat some corn.....

Drink water, eat enough fresh fruits and vegetables and you're good to go (lame pun intended)

I don't do cleanses, but I had no clue Trader Joe's had one.

    They have everything <3 lol

Anyway, I'm not a supporter of cleanses, but I mean if you try it out...you'll see how you feel about them. Sometimes we just have to experience things on our own to make a decision.

Yeah, I figured as much and I'm generally in the same camp, but I like trying things. And sometimes, I find that something works better for me than everyone else said it would.

Like for women, shaving your upper lip hair (sorry guys if I just ruined your innocence). I'm a major fan. Everyone said that was a bad idea but it's so much faster, and I'll do it more often than waxing/bleaching/whatever, and I haven't seen man stubble yet.

So, not expecting much from the detox but figured I'd ask, if anything to draw out horror stories if there are any. At least this isn't the kind of detox where you don't eat anything. :)

    Thanks for the comments!

I gave you a horror story of sorts. Over 10 years ago my friend did a detox/cleanse and hasn't been the same since. After she did it she had horrible stomach pains, had issues going to the bathroom, was sick constantly. No doctor could find any other reason for her issues minus the fact that she did a detox/cleanse set. It's been over 10 years now and she still has horrible stomach pains... it hurts enough where she can't move and is pretty much crying in pain. It has messed up her digestive system where she now cannot go to the bathroom without medication (not pretty but living on laxatives is not good for the body but she has no choice now as she can't go without them even with a high fibre, high fat, high water intake diet.. she has tried a ton of different diets out there to try and find something other than laxatives that can help her).

Don't risk your health. Either take them back if you can or throw them out. You won't accomplish anything anyways. They won't help you lose fat, they won't cleanse or detox your body. Sure they will help to clean out your digestive system a bit but once you eat it will be like nothing changed.
