Hi all,

I have been dieting for about 6 weeks now. I have a calorie deficit of about 900 - 1000 Cals a day.

I have only lost 2lbs so far and I am really discouraged. Am I doing something wrong ?

I have been eating the same foods day in day out and there is no real weight loss.

Macros consist off

- 64 Grams of Protein
- 238 Grams of Carbs
- 36 Grams of Fats

MFP recommends

-76 Grams of Protein
-190 Grams of Carbs
-51 Grams of Fats

I usually have about 3 cups of water a day.

My BMR is between 2,400 - 2,700

I exercise 2 - 3 times a week consisting of lifting weights.

Could someone please give me any advice on what i'm doing wrong ?

Do you mean you're in a daily deficit of 900 - 1,000 or that you only consume 900 - 1,000 caloires?

Weight loss is calories in vs. calories out. Macros (protein, fat, carbs) are personal choices for health, satiety and helping you stay the course.

How do you measure calories in? Do you weigh solids with a digital food scale? Are you logging every bite, taste, everything? Double check your database selections....plenty are wrong.

Are you eating back exercise calories? This is what MFP expects. How are you estimating calorie burns? You could be burning less than you think.

A new strength training program (sore muscles) can lead to water retention. When you say you haven't been losing, how long has it been?

IHow much weight do you have to lose in total? It could be 1/2 pound a week would be good progress.

    I have a daily deficit of 900 - 1,000. So i usually consume around 1500 to 1600 Calories.

I have also been weighing and measuring everything as best I can. Foods like fruits and slices of bread all have the grams on the packaging.

Yes, but are *you* then weighing those items? Packaging can be off by up to 20 percent, so if you're not losing as predicted/expected, I'd start there and make sure that your tracking and weighing is on point.

I have just started to exercise 2-3 weeks ago, water retention could be an issue. I don't eat back my calories, am i supposed too? So if I burn 400 calories, am I expected to eat 400 calories ?

Currently weigh around 173-174 lbs looking to get down to 165.

My diary is very inconsistent due to me not putting in my foods each day. (Lack of motivation)

I don't weigh the items as I always thought the packaging would be right. That is really interesting, I didn't know it could be off by 20%.

Thanks for the advice though, I shall invest in a scale and start there.

How have you been "weighing as best you can" if you don't have a scale? For sure start there.

Ah, things make much more sense now.

Weigh and log *everything*. Every day. It's amazing how much we can forget that we're eating when we don't track.

    Re-evaluate in 4-6 weeks.

if you aren't logging every day how do you know you are meeting your goals?

yes, the MFP calorie reommendations are designed for you to eat back at least a poriton of your workout calories

do you mean your TDEE is 2400-2700? what are your stats? not to mention with so little to lose its going to be really slow and you have to be more accurate(weighing)( when trying to lose so little. if there is no weight loss then you are eating maintenance calories
