What will the latest generation be nostalgic for in 30+ years?

Everyone has things they miss from their own days of yore, but I think the true impact of nostalgia doesn't hit until late 40's or around 50, then becomes exponentially apparent from there on. Even as a younger man I could see the biggest changes of the world reflected in what the older generations talked about. I was thinking about this yesterday when my boys (14 and 17) were talking about things they miss or remember fondly from their past, and I wondered what bigger things their generation would be nostalgic about when all is said and done. Will it be places, things, or some greater personal impact that they long for?

What say you about tings you are nostalgic about, or what do you think will be the nostalgia in 30+ years?

I’ll tell you what my kids will be nostalgic about: flossing. And I don’t mean oral hygiene

My 20-something girls are going to grow old wishing for the simple weirdness of My Little Pony.

This was one of my things. I think they will be nostalgic for more interpersonal communication and simplicity overall. I think as much as technology was taughted to be this amazing way to same time and money, it has sucked up ten fold of both what we used to do without it.

I put this akin to the opening scene in the Star Trek movie with Kirk, Bones and Spock camping. All the technoogy, space travel, and whatevs, and that basic moment still resonates in most men's hearts.

I agree. Maybe it won't even matter to that generation though since they didn't experience it through the similar conditions as the previous generations. Ie: Reading the newspaper in the morning with a cup of coffee at a coffee shop and chatting with the people around, instead of it being the new age "office" or "library" and nobody even says hello or a simple smile.

Yeah, that will be insterest since there is a very disctinct cut between communiction media and how kids today intereact compared to my day. I started in computers when computers first started, but there are plenty of people my age that did not and have no idea still about that technology. Same type of cut point.

It will be interesting to see. I imagine it's different for everyone, like some people are nostalgic for "things" and some for "the way things were".

I don't really think about the latest generation and what might be important to them. I love talking to (some) kids...next chance I get, I'm going to interrogate them!

For me I get nostalgic for memories, places I've been and how "my head felt" at certain times. As a kid being content in the moment and looking forward to the future.

I get nostalgic for things I don't recognize or appreciate in the moment, and later look back fondly on the time, whether it was 20 years ago or 2 days.

The other day a song came on the radio and my 14 year old said it reminded her of her childhood. 🤣

It was that Party Rock song by LMFAO. 😆

Exactly. My boys do the same and it just strikes me as funny and cute more than anything.
