Anyone using virgin coconut oil on their skin to avoid or help reduce stretch marks?

I’ve read that coconut oil and Shea butter are supposed to be really good for the skin or is any moisturizer good enough?

Good for your skin, maybe. But nothing will really help stretch marks. They'll fade a bit over time, but stretch marks are tears in the sublayers of skin that lotion can't reach. I have them from my upper thighs to above my navel, but having a baby was (usually  ) totally worth it.

Nah, it breaks me out. Nothing like a good ol' zit on the butt. I do have sensitive skin though. Things seem better when I stay well hydrated and moisturize with my regular moisturizer (cerave in the tub) liberally as far as stretch marks go. It probably doesn't actually help with the stretch marks themselves, but it does make my skin nicer so the stretch marks don't look as bad in combination. I'm in the middle of losing so they're going to be around no matter what at this point, but they lighten up as I slow my rate of loss.

Ain’t no body got time for that.

Also, I’ve been having extreme itchy skin, esp on my old stretch marks, or could it be new stretch marks coming in?

I think cocoa butter is supposed to make stretch marks less noticeable, although I don't think it will erase them.

I use it on my hair which is nice, but once it touches my skin elsewhere I tend to get a little itchy. But I do have sensitive skin as well and nothing has reduced my abdomen stretch marks in 31 years, only thing that works far as I know is at the cosmetic surgeons office, lasers, surgery etc

Cocoa butter daily does keep tattoos vibrant...don't know what this means for stretch marks, but it does work on other skin related things.

I've used coconut oil for about 50 years. It used to be the cheep stuff that you used when you couldn't afford nice creams.
I use it about once a week after exfoliating.
Otherwise I rotate between Cerave, Nivea, Olay, etc. Inexpensive with low to no perfume.

I have no idea if one is better than the other, especially when it comes to stretch marks.
(These come under the permanent and genetic banner, so the efficacy of any cream is questionable. JMHO)

    Cheers, h.

I tried using coconut oil after my shower. It made me feel dirty all over again.

Get jojoba oil from Trader Joe’s. It is very light and absorbs well. It is shiny for a few minutes. I’ve switched over from heavier Shea butter and don’t like to apply petroleum-based lotions.

I use coconut oil every day for my skin and hair . Including throughout my pregnancy and no stretch marks ! My mom had stretch marks as welll as my sisters but the girls on my dads side didn’t get any so maybe just genetics

Thanks for the reminder @vanity99. I used cocoa butter during both pregnancies years ago, and it worked. Going to start again, thanks to your reminder!

Literally nothing prevents stretch marks. Nothing. They’re genetic. You’re either going to get them or you’re not. I’ve been chalk full of them since I hit puberty. However it’s really good to use coconut oil on your skin to keep it soft and hydrated and to prevent aging!
