Just plan for it in your day. It's better to plan for a delicious meal by eating lighter for breakfast and lunch and taking an extra walk at lunch time.

However, here is something I came across when I was looking up calories in sushi rice that you may find helpful.

  • Some really great info. from everyone, just wanted to remind you of one more thing.

Please do not weigh yourself tomorrow. No matter how healthy usually there is soy sauce involved in the eating of the sushi and it causes super mega water retention.

    At in me it does.

I'd stay away from the westernized rolls and just stick with the more traditional stuff. And yes, sushi rice, while not the most nutrient filled thing is nowhere near a typical American hamburger.

when i have sushi, i really don't care to "stay within limits."

i go crayyyyyzayyyyy. and that's fine with me. because sushi is OM NOM NOM.

    edamame
    seaweed salad
    california roll
    spicy tuna roll
anything with eel or soft shell crab
    a specialty roll
    sashimi, oh sashimi
    tempura--come at me, bro!!

i'll eat whatever. cuz it's so freaking good.

^yep this. I would have to eat 11 plates of my favorite specialty roll (above maintenance calories) to gain 1 pound. Best I have done was 6.

Stressing over it probably does more harm than just enjoying what you like every once in a while.
  • I eat shrimp, just plan old shrimp and it never lets me down!

I usually go for Sashimi but if I am getting rolls I always go for yellowtail with scallion. No real junk in it and just yummy. I tend to either get edamame or miso soup as well. have fun

Amen!!! After living in Japan for a couple years, 1) I was spoiled on cheap/GOOD QUALITY sushi and, 2) am nauseated at the concoctions most Americans lump under the same term. No self-respecting Japanese sushi chef would drown and/or fry his fish in the goop and garbage we're (collectively) willing to consume. Then again, here it's all about trying to be the most "creative" by piling on as much as you can. Garbage....stick with sashimi and basic nigiri and you'll be FINE.

I also stick to the rolls without rice-rolled in cucumber, no tempura, or sauces besides a little soy and lots of wasabi and ginger!
