Anyone have issues with eating certain foods and gaining 5 lbs over night?
Does gluten do this to anyone?
Sugar?
Regular carbs?
Salt?
Is it a matter of hydration?

Salt increases can cause fluid retention. An increase of carbs (whatever type) means that the body will also hold onto more water. An increase in exercise will do the same, especially if your muscles feel sore. Sore=inflamation=fluid retention. Ovulation and your period can also cause fluid retention. You have gained water and not fat (unless you at around 20,000 calories above maintenance. This extra weight will decrease over the coming days.11

Yep, a lot of people have those issues, they're quite common and to be expected. Here's why: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10683010/the-weird-and-highly-annoying-world-of-scale-fluctuations/p19

Had one of these recently after adjusting contraception. Gained 6lbs in less than a week. Lost it 5 days later. It was just water retention. My hands felt puffy too, so I knew it was just water.2

A big Mexican meal will make the scale go up a few pounds overnight for me. Sometimes it takes 5 days for me to get back where I started. The value of logging and weighing myself is so i can learn how my body works with retention of water, weight gain and loss, etc..4

All kinds of things can cause this...extra food/ waste in your system, high sodium meal, poor sleep, starting/increasing exercise, hormones, etc. It's part and parcel to being alive.2

No, but my period does.2

Too much of good clean food makes you gain, as well as too much of any kind of food.10

I can gain 3 or 4 pounds overnight from excess sodium but I've never noticed any particular food - just any with a lot of salt.
Then again, I had surgery recently and came home from the hospital 12 pounds higher than when I left home. Taken nearly 3 weeks for it all to go away.4 -
