I’m at my highest weight I ever have been. Starting at 230 I need to be 180 by the time spring rolls around. I have an autoimmune disorder that doesn’t help much with my weight loss. My metabolism sucks and i have no energy but with the craving for food each hour. I am starting tomorrow to better myself. I have ordered metabolic enhancements from GNC that are highly recommended. I will start exercising three days a week with light and gradually go up to moderate. I am working on my meals being homemade instead of store bought. That’s my first goal this week is not to eat out at all. Wish me luck. 😊

Hey, welcome to MFP!1

This topic is kind of controversial to some but have you tried a diet low in lectins? I write this because you said you have problems with your autoimmune system. Be aware that some people will call the benefits of avoiding some lectin containing foods (mostly legumes, grains, dairy) scientifically unproven. This is a new topic and more research needs to be done. In my personal experience there is something to it as I don't really feel the urgent need to eat all the time / feel hungry when I avoid these foods. This video is a good start if you want to learn more about the topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4KfKapvnuI
BTW you should see the first results of feeling hungry go away within the first couple of days of doing this. I would give it at least a week though if you want to see if you autoimmune system positively reacts to the changes.6 -

those 'metabolic enhancements' are woo, try and cancel your order and get a refund.
good luck8 -
The best metabolic enhancement comes for free.. you can get it by intermittent fasting (reducing the amount of time you put stuff in your mouth each day). 16/8 (16 hours no eating, 8 hours eating) is super easy by just skipping breakfast. 18/6 should also be pretty easy.13

any actual research papers?5

Did you watch the videos? He is a medical Dr. and teaches other physicians on nutrition. I am pretty sure he has done his research. In his video he actually explains why things work the way they do. It's not always super easy to understand but give it a try anyway. If you find legitimate scientific papers that claim the opposite please let me know.12

@lowcarbmale
Quit pushing your agenda. Low carb did nothing to help with my auto-immune disease, all it did was make me sad and miserable.10 -

Intermittent fasting has nothing to do with low carb. Not all bodies work the same. I'm sorry things don't work for you.5 -

Welcome OP. Chances are those "metabolic enhancements" will do nothing, unless they contain caffeine, which will give you some energy and make you feel like they are doing something. You don't need to buy anything. Just start logging your food and learning as you go. Make small incremental changes. Don't get too caught up in a timeline - weight loss isn't linear and your body doesn't react exactly to everything you do on a schedule. Move more, however you can - that's the way to burn more calories.
I found pre-logging everything before I ate it really helped me to discern between hunger and craving. I also found getting more protein and fiber kept me more full, for others fat can help. Read the Most Helpful Posts threads at the top of each board. Be patient and good luck!2 -

It's based on the number of hours between the meals.
One meal in the morning + one in the evening -> No.
One at lunch + one in the evening -> Yes6 -
What happens if I eat a late breakfast but nothing until dinner? Not IF?0
-
The important thing in IF is that the pause between meals is as long as possible (>16 hours is recommended by most .. but you can do more or less) . That pause is needed to increase growth hormone in your body and reduce insulin. Both very important factors to burn fat.10

No - do you know which macro can be stored as fat without insulin? I'll give you a hint, it starts with an 'F'...
There is no need to reduce insulin to reduce fat storage - the only necessary thing to reduce fat storage is to reduce calories. As long as you are in a deficit there is no NET fat storage regardless of which macro the calories come from.6 -
@smilerdh17 Did tomorrow ever arrive?2

Back to you, OP.
Start with baby steps. Commit to logging everything you eat, the good the bad and the ugly. After a week or so, take an honest look at your food diary. Which foods weren't "worth it"? Either they didn't keep you full, or they were higher calorie and didn't taste that great, etc. Switch something out. Maybe trade one soda per day for water. Do that until it feels natural, while still logging everything religiously. Once the first change is second nature, make another change. Maybe you commit to having a vegetable at two meals per day. Or whatever. Again, do that until it's second nature, while continuing to log. See the pattern?
Oh, yeah. And return those GNC supplements. There isn't anything you can buy over-the-counter that will enhance your metabolism. It's all woo, and the only thing they make thinner is your wallet.6 -

And Dr Berg has been sanctioned several times for peddling unconfirmed 'cures' for known ailments.7 -
Welcome to MFP. First I congratulate you on your decision to make a change. That after all is the first step. Your goal to not eat out is also great. It’s a small change and totally doable. I’m proud of you for starting1

I fast 16:8 and sometimes 18:6 and have since I was a kid. guess what? it has done NOTHING for my metabolism and I do have a metabolic issue due to a genetic defect. I also have an autoimmune disease. didnt help it one bit. I also gained weight and became obese doing IF because I ate too much. and IF has nothing to do with fat burning if it did I would have never gained weight. im maintaining my weight right now. Ive lost,gained and maintained doing IF. weight is lost in a deficit plain and simple
I have even tried low carb and keto. still not a dang thing3
