MFP has a generic macro setup when you set up your accounts. Unless there's a medical reason, you don't need to limit either. I would focus on reaching your protein goal right now, and let the other macros and nutrients fall where they may. After a few weeks you can see what kinds of foods you like and what kind of macro percentages they naturally fall in. At that point you might want to change your macro percentages if you want to something more appropriate for you.

Do you have a specific, diagnosed health reason to avoid sodium and carbs? If not, why worry about them?

Calories are the key to weight management. Nutritionally, there are essential minimums of protein and fat one should hit. People ideally eat lots of nice fruits and veggies for micronutrients and fiber. Lots of us find it more effective to focus on what to add to our eating (within calorie goal) instead of what to subtract/avoid.

Sodium and carbs (not to mention sugar) aren't that meaningful, unless you have a relevant health condition. Both tend to add a little water weight temporarily while our bodies are processing them, but that's water, not fat, so NBD.

I don't really worry about carbs...you're just getting a generic default macro setting from MFP...there's nothing magical about it.

In regards to sodium, I'm hypertensive and have to watch that to an extent...if you're eating a bunch of pre-packaged foods and processed foods and eating out a lot, that's generally going to be high sodium...cook more from whole ingredients and minimally processed ingredients.

@nutmegoreo @Tacklewasher I know you only fuss because you care :flowerforyou:

Seriously, uncheck the box that says 'show diary food insights.' Most annoying feature ever! I couldn't get rid of it fast enough.

I turned off the setting that let MFP fuss at me

Now if only you could stop people (like @Tacklewasher) from fussing at you.

OP, look over your diary and see where the bulk of these things are coming from, and find ways to reduce those. As others have said, in absence of medical conditions, it's probably fine. Your protein intake is quite low. If you focus on increasing protein, you might find the carbs decrease in balance. I find focusing on what I do want, rather than what I don't want to be a good approach (for me).

    Huh.

Apparently I have it set so I don't see annoying notifications from @nutmegoreo
(not sure why I didn't get a notification, you musta screwed something up).

One of you needs a hug :)

And yeah, I just stopped closing my days so I don't get any messages if I miss or go over on something. Much better that way.

Foiled again! I shall find a way to annoy you @Tacklewasher, if it means I have to launch a campaign to get everyone to hug you.
