To lose weight you need to eat at a calorie deficit. Put your stats into MFP set your weekly weight loss goal. Most choose a realistic loss of between 1 and 2 lbs. Then weigh and measure all your food. Log in your diary daily and eat all the calories MFP gives you. You can't spot reduce so you will have to be patient as belly fat is often the last fat to go.

You won't gain muscle on a calorie deficit but if you incorporate a progressive heavy lifting programme into your exercise regime you will maintain the muscle you have and as the fat decreases your muscle will be more visible.

Once you have reached goal weight (or near) then you can re-assess how you look and decide whether you want to go on and eat at a calorie surplus (bulk) while lifting and try to gain muscle then.

This is a slow process and you need to be patient and consistant. Diet for weight loss, exercise for fitness.

    I agree with the above.

I also think these two links are extremely helpful and can help you get the most out of MFP:

    http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1234699/logging-accurately-step-by-step-guide/p1

    http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1080242/a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants/p1

The first covers accurate logging and some of the tools in MFP to help you make things easier. The second discusses caloric needs and setting goals. These two posts completely changed my MFP experience and helped me be much more successful, so I hope they do the same for you.

    ~Best wishes on your journey
