If you have a day of extreme eating, how many days can you go after being in a calorie deficit before having a very high calorie meal (out) without it causing weight gain?

Most if not all meals out will cause weight to fluctuate due to higher sodium/salt/carbs etc to gain actual weight you need to be in a consistent calorie surplus

It's not about the number of days, it's calories that determine weight gain. You gain 1lb from eating 3500 extra calories. If your extreme eating day put you 3500 over. Then you need to eat in a 500 calorie deficit for 7 days to lose that 1lb. You can change the calorie deficit to adjust how many days it takes to lose.

Scale changes from extra eating and eating out are more due to water retention that actual pounds of fat gained. Your body and weight should return to normal range in a few days.

Of course, I'm not sure how you define extreme eating so you may have actually gained. How many extra calories did you consume?

    how 'extreme' are you talking?

restaurant food is generally high sodium and high calories, so depending how much you ate you will see an increase of both water weight and fat weight. though the chances of you having eaten enough to gain actual fat is very low.

it could take a day or a week to get back to 'normal'.
