Body Shape... Again

I've never really taken my measurements regularly before these past few months. But I was a ruler (or maybe hourglass, don't know) shape a few years ago. Now I'm not sure what my shape is. So many calculators online and they say different things.

These are my measurements, in inches:
32 (32C/32D)
26 (25.8)
36 (35.5)

Is this a pear shape or an hourglass or a ruler?
I'm around 5'8" and weigh about 128 lbs.

I just hate knowing that my hips are wider than my bust. I'd really rather be a ruler shape. I loved being a ruler shape.
Erm, well thanks for the input everyone!

Hourglass. If you're a C or D cup, that ups your bust measurement to 33 or 34 in, a lot closer to hourglass then pear.

You sound like a slim hourglass to me. 32" will be your underbust measurement, not your bust. Your bust size will be similar to your hip size, while your waist is a lot smaller.

That'll up it to 35-36, so you're a perfect hourglass, actually. Three inches for C, four for D.

Yep, for some reason I read her underbust as 30 instead of 32~

Not that it matters but assuming you're 32 inches around the widest part of your bust (and aren't just giving your band size, which would be weird) you'd be a pear. Not sure what your issue with pears is or why it matters but there you go.

I'm a pear (37-28-39) and I've never heard anything but 'nice' in relation to my figure.

Seems like a lot of women do not know how to properly measure their lady parts. :(

Thanks for the responses everyone. I'd like to respond to the second to last poster and say that I have nothing against pear shapes, or hourglass shapes, or inverted triangles, etc. I just prefer to be flat and have no curves as I always have been. I realize that I'm growing and I'll have to accept my body for how it is, but I still don't like it.

Using the calculator the first poster provided, I got pear shape. Perhaps weight lifting will change this and I can have a more defined ruler body shape? And 32 is the widest point of my bust- my underbust is about a 27/28.

I may have had this same thought. Do people measure the ribcage/underboob for bust measurements often? Cause I always measure across my breasts.

OP growing hips kind of comes with the woman territory generally. Even ruler shapes have hips. And, for the sake of things, heavy heavylifting has only made me more of a pear. My hip measurements have stayed mostly the same while my bust and waist have gone down, due to a general lifting and firming of my backside

I always presumed the bust measurement was straight across. I hope I'm not mistaken.

Well I guess I should just focus on getting more toned and losing the 'flabbiness' of my body through clean eating and weight lifting. As for the shape I can't do anything about it apparently but I can find the positive in this situation. I really do like my shoulders so I guess that's something I can use to my advantage. Thank you for your opinion- it's much appreciated!

About the comments about bust measurements: I think people go by the bust measurement (largest measurement) when working out body shape. But the OP had mentioned that she was a 32D: that would mean that her band size (underbust) was about 30.5 - 32. The D cup would add more inches, which is why some of us thought the bust measurement would be equal to the hip measurement.

OP, if your actual bust measurement is 32 and you've been told you're a 32D, you've probably been measured wrong! As others mentioned, a 32D will be closer to 36" around the bust, not 32". I think it's easiest to start with your underbust size, because that gives you the band size. The bigger the difference between the underbust and the actual bust, the bigger the cup size. You might turn out to be something like a 28D, for instance.

The bust size doesn't really matter, though. I'm just mentioning it because it feels so much better to wear a well-fitting bra, and so many people are fitted wrongly. Apparently it doesn't matter whether you are an hourglass or a pear, it's the waist to hip ratio that is important. Your waist to hip ratio sounds very good!

Different shapes need to be dressed differently to show off your best assets. These are fashion terms (ruler, vase, etc).

From a medical standpoint certain body types can show patterns of health with weight distribution. Larger waist sizes aka android body shape or the colloquial "apple" body shape show higher amounts of fat within the abdominal cavity which puts more stress on the organ systems here.

yeah but you don't need to give it a label or wish you were something else.

I realize that wearing shorts in's good for me- it doesn't matter if I call myself a ruler (seriously- who the **** wants to be a god damn ruler- unless we are talking being the Queen)... or a pear- or an apple.

hell I don't even like any of those fruits (well I do but I prefer berries).

Just know what works for your body and go with it- you don't need a bunch of labels to asertain when something looks bad on you.

And you can't really change your basic body shape. Being over weight is one thing... but being a "pear shape" that doesn't change. Unless you can figure out how to stretch/shrink your rib cage and or hips- that chit don't change.

Shrug- it is what it is. just keep working out and watch what you eat. No sense sweating the small stuff.

Or care enough to read and comment in these threads telling people they don't care. :drinker:

Well, it kinda does matter if you want to dress in a way that flatters your figure. When you want to look your best, it helps to know the shape you are fashion-wise.

Thank you for your information! I realized I'm either a 28D/28DD. I've been fitted wrong all along! :P I need to get an accurate fit sometime.

not a surprise. 28DD isnt sold in many stores that arent specialty lingerie stores (and i dont mean like VS). other places will measure you and will give you an incorrect size based on what they sell
