Hey I was just wondering whether calories in drinks are as bad as food calories. For example, the other night I forgot to order a DIET coke and malibu and got a regular coke instead. I was really disappointed when I realised as the coke has like 200 kcals in it...but I was thinking are those 200 kcals as bad as eating say a cake etc?

And the problem I have is...once I know I'm over the kcals I tend to think oh well I may aswell have something else now!...Bad times lol. I was over by 600kcals yesterday...mostly due to the malibu and coke and then a vodka and cranberry juice. What do you guys think? Thanks

I think a calorie is a calorie....don't matter where it comes from. I'm the same way...once I mess up...it goes downhill...just try to pick yourself back up again ; ) Ever try bacardi and diet? theres barely any calories!

Might try it! I was just so annoyed cause diet coke and malibu is only like 51 and I had more than enough for a few drinks but then I got regular coke! Tut...anyway on with today haha.

If the cake also had 200kcal like your coke then yep, exactly as 'bad'! Generally drinks are empty calories ie adds weight with very little nutrition and also usually doesn't help too much with satiety, so I tend to think of a high cal drink as being 'worse' than a high cal food (with the exception of milk drinks and ok, juices but I would still cut those back and have the actual fruit instead).

Actually, the diet coke is a lot worse than the regular because of the sweeteners. It has virtually zero calories but if I remember correctly, it fools the body to think that it's receiving sugar even though it's not and this causes a mess.

Some doctor explained the whole thing to me once and for a long time I didn't drink any diet sodas. Now I'm back to drinking them.. :blushing: A lot less than back then though..

A calorie is a calorie, whether it is 200 calories from a drink or 200 calories from a lump of steak. The only difference is that the steak will have better nutrients in it and make you feel full up for longer than the drink that is most probably empty and lacking substantially in nutrients.

Therefore, you have to weigh up your options, the drink or the food - if you choose the drink and then get starving hungry later on are you going to avoid the grub because you have had your quota of calories or are you going to eat? Then, if you eat, what's it going to be, a quick fix cake or cookie or something cooked that is full of goodness?

That's why nightclubs and pubs are often surrounded by fast-food joints, people get starving after a drink
