Amenorrhea.

I was just wanting to know if anyone else has gone through this and recovered their periods? If so how? And how long did it take? I am right smack in the middle of trying to get mine back. So I am looking for people who have or are going through it?

Me. I went through it last summer. I have always had regular periods, no problem getting pregnant. 2 healthy kids. Well, last summer I overexercised and didn't eat enough. My period was gone for 6 months starting at the end of August. I got it back in early February. I started eating more, started taking rest days, etc. I was completely overdoing it. I also gained 10 lbs back. My periods are regular now again. I wish the 10lbs wasn't here, but my body is apparently happy now,and I am technically at a normal weight, even though I want to lose a few. Don't mess around with this though. See a dr. I did, and even though I kept telling her about the diet and exercise, she said "that's not it". I knew keep down it was.

I went to the doctor!! They told me I was normal regardless of my period being gone. It's been gone since January. I have cut back so much on working out because of this, and I LOVE working out. I basically went sedentary outside of yoga. I 'feel' like I have gained and I have been eating so much more fat. But here I sit, still, patiently waiting for it to return so I can workout again. (not as heavy, I know I have to eat to support what I do)

Because of my recent bout with EDNOS, the first thing my doc asks me every time I see him is "do you still have your period". Lucky me, it's still hanging around, although there hasn't been much of one for years even with extra weight.

I'm curious as to the cause of yours. It's generally low body fat from what I understand (which is why mine is still hanging around because I'm not in that category) that causes it, which I assume comes from not eating enough and exercising too much for the calories you're consuming.

Eat more and exercise less would seem to be the solution.

Please don't blast me if I'm wrong here. I really don't have enough information on the subject to speak all that intelligently. I just felt the need to comment out of concern for you possible having an ED.

Well I lost it do to a restrictive/ intense workout diet. I have ana, and I use that as present tense because I still struggle with demons. But I eat in the ranges of 1200-1700 calories now. I got myself to this point. I just really wholeheartedly fear the weight gain, as I have been chubby my whole life and I don't want to be back there. I still have a tummy by the way and I was never underweight.

    I'm 5'4
    I weigh 113.
My BMI is somewhere between 19-20
    and my measurements are like:
    32-28-33.

Probably different now since my body hoard things now, like water, due to the whole thing.

I went through 4 months of not having my period. I was pretty underweight (105 at 5'7", so a BMI of 16.4). I was restricting and active (played Soccer and went to the gym on weekends), & I usually stayed around 1000 calories. Once I found out I was gluten intolerant(possibly have celiac but I haven't been tested) and began binging because I was told I was sickly thin, I regained my period.
Soooooooooooo, it might be because a food allergy or maybe even a medical condition? Your BMI is a healthy one (:

Me! I got my first period when I was 11, and I'm 19 now. They've never, ever been regular. Last summer, I didn't have my period for months and there was no way I could've been pregnant. I actually went on birth control when I had to do a check up with my doctor before university, and that helped. Every month now my period is no more than 2 days late. Sometimes my cycle is 28 days, sometimes it's 30, but never more than that. Birth control was a life saver for me.

Did you got to a family doctor or the gynecologist? I'm just wondering if maybe seeing the gyno would be more useful than the family doc. Also, since you struggle with Anorexia, do you have a doctor who specializes in the disorder? Maybe you could find one. I'm thinking that they may have more experience with dealing with extreme side effects of restrictive eating/ over-exercising.

    Good luck!

This is why I don't like to use a doctor for healing.
I will use one to gain information (or for an emergency or something), but when it comes to healing my body, I take charge. When my hormones went out of whack last year, I used natural means to restore them. A blood test revealed they were all a touch low. Remedy for me was time, rest, exercise, sunshine on my skin, healthy diet (meaning, fruits, veggies, good fats, adequate protein, etc), get rid of stressors. It takes TIME to restore balance to hormones. You might also look into herbs from a reputable source that loves herbs, like...bulkherbstore.com or crystal star herbs, etc.
I really hope you feel better!

Wow, it sounds like you need to find some new doctors. We all really have to be our own medical advocates in this day and age. Don't be afraid to go from doctor to doctor until you find someone that is willing to seriously listen to you and help you out. There are still good doctors out there, it's just that they can be hard to find. Ask the people you know if they have a great doctor that they feel will really listen to them and try to get in there.

I faithfully have been getting my period since I turned 13 and I'm 27 now. With as sick as I sometimes feel while I'm on my period, I'd be happy if I no longer got it! When I was 13, I'd get so sick on my period that I'd have to miss school and was put on birth control to try to fix it. That kind of helped even though I still do once in a great while feel sick to the point of needing to throw up.

As someone with PCOS, I very much have a love/hate relationship with this. I hate it when I struggle with not getting it for months, because at the very least I want my "female stuff" to work properly. Then when I do get it, it's "oh my god WHY did I want this". OP, I'd recommend changing doctors if they're trying to tell you to be happy you're not getting it ... unless a woman is on a birth control specifically designed to halt periods, we need them in order to avoid all sorts of not-fun medical problems. Any doctor that tries to tell you to be happy you're not getting it doesn't know squat about women's health.

I got mine back when I started eating more, and cut back some on my workouts. It probably took almost 6 months, maybe a little less.
