Hey everyone, been on the app since the beginning of Sept., after browsing realized this feature. I’m hoping to be part of the the group.

I love the calorie intake but not sure my calories burned is correct. I consider myself relatively active, power walking, biking, golfing, kayaking, when I sync my Garmin watch to the app, it shows very little calories burned, more resting, therefore, I definitely need help in finding what I’m doing wrong 🙈😱. Any advice/pointers would be greatly appreciated.😊

I’m 56 and (do believe) menopause is making it soooo difficult to lose weight. My goal is to lose 10-15lbs. I don’t believe in diets, only eating in moderation and exercising, that’s my motto. So I do try to watch the calories, keeping in mind, at times i do binge.

Looking forward to getting in some chatting with members.

Thanks in advance,

Kelly 🤗

Generally speaking humans are terrible at estimating (hence the repeated advice on here to use a scale) and tend to err in their favour meaning they'll underestimate the number of calories they're eating and overestimate the number of calories they're burning during exercise.

There's a reason that weight loss happens in the kitchen rather than the gym. Working out generally contributes a relatively small amount to your daily calorie burn. The vast majority of your calories go just staying alive and going about your day.

Can you provide some examples of the activities you're doing and the numbers the Garmin is putting up along with your height and weight. Other people in a similar situation as you can then provide a frame of reference.

Hi Danp, thanks for your reply. I am 5’3 and weigh 143lbs. I’m trying to lose 10-15lbs. An example, I powered walk for 1hr and 10mins, my watch say’s it’s 4.7kms, which is incorrect, as when I do 70 mins it’s 7.5km (I took the car and calculated the mileage). Calories burned 198, does this sound right. CONFUSED! 🙈

70 mins of walking for me is approx 350 calories but I'm taller, heavier (6'0, 274lb) and male so 198 calories burned for a 70 minute walk doesn't sound all that far from possible.

AS I said, exercise really does only contribute less than we think which is why it's far better to concentrate on the in going calories and leave the exercised focused on getting fitter and healthier and perhaps adding some much needed wiggle room to account for logging inaccuracies.

Well hopefully that's closer to your h/w will be able to give you a more accurate comparison but for reference you can see the above.

Thanks Danp for your reply. I now realize how little calories we do burn, even when training at our hardest. That being said, I’m ok with it, as for me, exercise is a matter of keeping fit and staying in good health.
