This was a harder ride than I expected. I've done Loup Loup Pass from Twisp, today I did it from Okanogan. I knew the road would start a lot lower, I didn't know it would be steeper much of the way. That's just how it goes sometimes. By the numbers, this was: 36.5 miles; 3,770 feet of elevation gain; 3:20 at 157w; 1,870 delicious calories. Just when I needed carbs the most, there was a place with apple caramel pull-aparts to finish off the ride.

I started at about 800 feet, in the Okanogan Valley floor. At this elevation there are no trees except near the rivers.

It wasn't long until there were trees, and eventually larches. They were a little beyond prime, but the sun was at my back the entire ride, and the light just made them sing for the camera.

At last!

Here's Kangaroo Ridge at Washington Pass, from the drive out.

Tomorrow I'm planning to ride over Sherman Pass if the weather allows. That'll be 7,100 feet of vert in 2 days! :fearful::weary:

Sorry, can't help it. My favorite part of this story was the apple caramel pull-aparts. ;)
Great day for a ride! B)

I’m a little disappointed that there are no pics of the Apple-caramel thingies, but the others are beautiful. What an amazing place to ride!

    Love your cycling excursions.

You do get me looking at google maps a lot as we are relatively close, just either side of the border, so I like comparing the landscape changes.

I spend a lot of time in the Okanagan so it was interesting to see the USA side. Your desert looks more extensive.
Oddly enough I used to think the desert landscape boring, now I love the subtle colouring and minutiae of it.

    Cheers, h.
