Been around MFP for a bit...A year ago I was 30lbs+ tan I am today...already a good sign. I have started keto in the last 5 weeks, and have lost right around 15lbs. I try and make it to the gym 5-6 times a week and am doing mostly cardio. Last year around this time I was focusing more on weight training than cardio...and I could tell the difference in my body, it felt...tighter.

For some reason, I cant seem to get into it anymore... I get to the gym around 5:45-6am and go straight to the elliptical/treadmill then do some swimming. I have tried different routines, but can't seem to stick to them... I really want to "grow" a booty, but I am worried about my arms since they have a lot of jiggle...I keep telling myself "Monday I will start a new routine" but it just doesn't happen.

I need to get rid of this block if I want to tighten everything...I just can't seem to get out this funk...

Just venting...

In the past I have tried some of the Jillian Michaels videos, recently I follow some people on IG. They have great workout, very well explained and doable. I may start it and do fine one week, feel the soreness and love it...then I kind of just go back to cardio...

Find a well written progressive routine. Bodybuilding.com and Kris Gethin have some very good routines. Jillian Michaels is good for cardio, but that's all I'll give her. Following people on IG I wouldn't recommend because you never know what their background is and how good their routine would be.

Thanks @cathipa, I will look into those! I want to start something on the 1st...I weigh and measure on that day and want to track on a monthly basis...

Another app I use for tracking my weight training would be Jefit. If you are going to use weights its good to track just how well you are progressing and unfortunately MFP doesn't allow for that. This is another way I stay motivated to keep going back to the gym :)

I have been lifting weights and doing cardio for years. Through all that time, I've gone through cycles where I was more focused on one and not as motivated for the other....then after awhile it would switch. I think it's great that you are showing up to the gym--ultimately the best workout for you is the one you enjoy and *will* do.

But here are a few thoughts about lifting...

First, my boss is keto and has mentioned that lifting feels much harder than it did before keto. I don't know if that's a factor for you. I'm not suggesting you shouldn't do keto, just that it could be related to how you feel in the gym. Cutting carbs hurt my performance and motivation in the gym too, though I wasn't keto.

Second thought (agree with @cathipa) is downloading an app for tracking your lifts can be extremely motivating. I use WorkIt.

Third, maybe you could lower your expectations of yourself in the weight room for bit. Maybe you could agree to just lift for X amount of time (like 15 minutes or whatever you feel confident you would do). Just focus on your favorite exercise for arms and your favorite exercise for glutes (since you said those are the areas you're most concerned about). Do the bare minimum, and then do the cardio that you really want to do. At some point you may be inspired to stay in the weight room a little longer.

Don't worry--it's normal to go through those periods of low motivation.

Thanks @xtrain321! I definitely feel more comfortable with cardio right now...and I will be looking at these apps!

Could you invest a bit of money into a Personal trainer to kickstart your weight training? Nothing like having someone else tell you what to do once or twice a week to really make it happen. Or body pump? The class - it’s a weight class and I’ve already pretty much doubled my weights in it 😊

Also when you are keto you need a lot more sodium so if you are feeling a bit blah that could be part of it?
