My wife and I watched a show last night about Obesity and they mentioned that over the next 6 years, those of us who lose weight are more likely to put it back. They said there is a small, rare few who actually are able to make the permanent change.

It's because dieting/weight loss/fitness is not a phase of our life; it is a total, permanent change of habit because our bodies always want to revert back to our previous state.

Prepare yourself for a total, lifelong commitment. When the weight is off, then you have to be extra committed and burn additional calories so your body doesn't store energy and fat cells. Say goodbye to your previous self, body, diet, and routine, and embrace the new, healthy and dedicated personality that you and your family/friends need you to be so you can be there in the moments your old self couldn't.

Embrace it, get up and make it happen. You are in charge now.

I would take that in a different direction.

It's not normal to eat so much that I put on 70+ pounds. That was the part that was dysfunctional. Eating a normal amount of food is the way we grow up. Not being given access to anything we want at any time. I think those of us who become over weight just need to go back to the more reasonable, non-gluttonous way of eating.

I think it's more about a bad habit than anything.

I lost my weight eleven years ago and I've kept it off. At some point I had to be my own good parent and learn to say, "No."
