Hey, I'm starting IF today. I did it once before and I felt great. I didn't keep at it very long though.

Anybody else do it? I have some questions.

Do you have days where you fast and days where you don't? Or is it an every day thing for certain hours?

What do you do to hell with hunger pangs? Is there something that helps?

Thanks in advance for your input!

I think it is the default way of eating for most peope...eat part of the day, don't eat other parts.

I tend to do 16:8 or 14:10 nearly every day - since I was three years old.

I don't do entire day fasts or 5:2. That doesn't work for me to have a fasting day or to eat 500 cals on two days like 5:2.

I replied to this, but apparently it didn't post?

Anyways, when I first started it, I had a big family issue come up, and my emotional eating got the best of me. I stopped trying to lose weight all together.

Now that it has settled, and I'm ready to really get going, I think that it will be a good fit for me.

I vary my eating sometimes I do 16/8, weekends I worry less about times and more about total calorie intake. I see the most successful drop in weight with OMAD style since most times it’s far too easy to hit 1,200 calories in one meal and I can eat at practically any restaurant and still lose or at least maintain if that’s the only meal I have for a day.

As long as you maintain a calorie deficit then do what works for you. There is nothing special IF will impart to weight management unless it is to keep you within your deficit. Best of luck!

IF will really only help if you are the type of person who doesn't get really hungry during your fasting hours. Some people are more comfortable and successful eating around the clock, while others do better limiting themselves to a smaller window.

You can try caffeine (it works as an appetite suppressant for some people) or play around with your eating window so you're not eating at the time of day it's naturally easy for you to not eat. Otherwise, it might not be a good plan for you! I did IF for a couple of years because I was waking up not hungry and never even noticed I hadn't eaten until lunch time. Then a few months ago I started waking up hungry and when it didn't stop after a couple of days, I redistributed my calories and started eating in the morning again.

    All good points above...

I.F. is a means to an end (caloric deficit) ... it works well for me personally as it fits my lifestyle.

I do IF. I like it. I stick to during the week and just try to stay under calories on the weekends. I also work out 5-7 days a week. On those days I’m much more hungry.

So I have been on MFP for 50 some days and have lost some of the weight I need to lose, and I’m in it for the long haul. I have quite a ways to go, but I have added in IF this week. It’s my understanding that IF works in conjunction with calorie counting because it allows your body to rest from an insulin response. When you eat continually through the day, your pancreas releases insulin all day. I am at risk for type 2 diabetes which my dad has. So if you’re fasting your body runs out of carbs and stored carbs and is forced to metabolize stored fats. And your pancreas gets to rest. I had read an article on the WSJ and it supported that fasting allows your body to work in a different way to get energy. We are so used to having access to food at any time, and for most of history, humans haven’t had access to foods all the time, so it does make sense to me that many people respond positively to fasting. I have committed to doing 16 hour fasts for four months to see if it will help me lose weight. It’s just my first week and I am not perfect (i only fasted for 12 hours on Halloween) so I don’t have a good result to share yet, but I am going to give it a try and see it if will jumpstart my weight loss.

Drink lots of water. At least 2L but ideally more. Be prepared to pre a lot tho! 🤣
