Preparing for the holidays and wanting to stay on track!

So I’m already trying to plan for how I’m going to stay on track. I always host our Christmas dinner and I always bake a ton of goodies for my kids and my family. My plan of attack is to make things lower calories so I can enjoy a few things and still stay in my calorie goal!
But I’m still getting a little worried because between the wine and eggnog and baked goods and then dinner, and of course I’m planning on eating in moderation but I’m just seeing if anyone had any good tips that helped them stay on track though the holidays!
I still want to enjoy myself but also want to keep losing!

My strategy: a holiday is a holiday, not a holiweeks. I'll eat reasonable amounts of my favorite holiday treats on the holidays I celebrate, but I don't let it extend into multiple days. That does mean I do less baking than I did in the past (unless it is stuff that I'm giving as gifts and getting away from myself!), but it works well for me. I also prioritize the things that are special holiday treats over things that I can easily eat year-round.
I work in an office setting where people tend to bring in lots of food around the holidays. I ruthlessly skip just about everything unless it looks particularly unique and amazing. There's literally no point in grabbing holiday candy or store-bought cookies (unless they are things that you particularly enjoy). I save my calories for things like homemade pie or eggnog, the foods I really enjoy during the holidays. There is no point (for me) in eating foods I can get year-round just because they've got red and green sprinkles in December!
Being really particular in what you choose to eat can help make the holidays much more reasonable.9 -
Thanksgiving is one day...Christmas is one day...what happens on an occasion is pretty irrelevant to the big picture. I started my weight loss in the fall of 2012...I enjoyed the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays as normal and it didn't stop me from losing 40 Lbs. Occasions here and there are immaterial to the bigger picture.2
