I have done a lot of research on eating to relieve autoimmune pain. What works for me is having a breakfast shake (I personally like premier protein shakes) with a tsp each of cinnamon, ginger and numeric, and a TBS each of cocoa powder and blackstrap molasses plus a cup of either raspberries or blueberries. Full of antioxidants and anti-inflamatory goodness that also keeps me full for hours. I can tell when I have not had my shake for a few days, the pain just creeps back up. Good luck...3

i have found no diet works IME. i eat what i eat. most relief comes from moving. gentle yoga. stretching. walking.
warm baths. heating pads2 -
Heating pads, hot showers, baths, spas, massages have helped me. Walking or even standing for any length of time is difficult for me so I don't get much exercise at all. But I'm one of those cases where I was unhealthy from birth.
I've also suffered horrible migraines since childhood and some dietary changes suggested by my doctor have helped with that and with joint inflammation and skin redness; however it hasn't helped with my pain levels at all.1 -
@neonoreo my issues were active when I was 22 but finally Oct 2014 at the age of 63 with deformations and pain from Ankylosing Spondylitis on a hunch I stopped eating any food containing added sugars or any form of any grain. In my case I had to do it cold turkey because the cravings got in the way of tapering off such foods.
Yes the first two weeks was hellish especially for my wife and kids but by day 30 pain management kicked in and I have never looked back to my old Way Of Eating. Now 4 years later at the age of 67 my health and health markers are better than in decades. I wish I had changed my WOE when I was 22 and avoided a life of poor health and pain.
Pain being well managed and no cravings for four years is a new found freedom for me.
Keep looking for a WOE that gives you better health and best of success.2 -
GaleHawkins, and neonoreo, will you add me to your friends? I also have AS. I had frequent iritis episodes prior to quitting dairy, and they have been able to be controlled with medication since that time.
GaleHawkins, I think I should try your WOE also.
Four years ago there were times when I could not walk without crutches, and was in a lot of pain all the time. My diet is better now, and we found medications that work well for me, and I exercise every day. Nordic walking works very well for me.0 -
I have a few autoimmune issues and so far keto has helped me but I'm only a week in. The first few days was NOT fun but after that I've been much better.0
