Introducing myself

My name is Lucy and I am currently a student at Parsons School of Design in New York. I grew up in Canada and am living in Hong Kong. Throughout my life, I have been struggling a lot with weight loss. I am 5'2" (I'm a pretty small person), I now weigh 55.45kg and my goal is to lose 5kg over five months. For the four years in high school, I was always doing one or more sports. I played field hockey, rugby, track and field and I used to swim all the time as a competitive swimmer. After a change in the environment, I have noticed my weight gain from freshmen year of university. I've become really insecure about my body and the way I look (big thighs, belly fat, broad shoulders, wide hips/waist, and my small double chin. I have a smart scale that measures body and other information about my body and it tells me that I have an athlete's body but I don't feel like one just because of the way I look. I guess I am just really insecure. My boyfriend introduced myfitnesspal to me and I am trying my best to keep up with putting in my information etc. A month ago, I started going to the gym and I have been pretty consistent. I also noticed some muscle growth already. I really want to motivate myself to reach my goal and I hope myfitnesspal will guide me to that! I downloaded this app about two months but I just can't seem to be consistent with adding my meals/calories. But I will force myself to do so in the future!

It is a difficult habit to get into, but if you do it everyday, faithfully, even when you go over your calorie allowance, for at least 4 weeks, it will become a much easier habit to stick to. Many times, it is difficult to enter information when you know you didn't eat the way you should on a given day. But it is those days that it is most important to hold yourself accountable. Just remember, it is all data that you can use to improve in the future.

You're doing great so far! :)
  • Hi 👋
I just looked up 55.45 kg and it's 122ish pounds? That is my weight and I am a 5'2" Canadian female! Also looking to lose about 15 pounds.
I've just started using this app a week ago and already I'm finding it's a bit consuming to be measuring literally everything I consume.
My boyfriend thinks it's really strange and unnecessary, so we have a difference there.
I don't think you should doubt that you look fit and healthy at your weight, especially if you've been athletic for the majority of your life you likely have a lot of muscle still.
I relate the feeling just a little pudgier than I'd like to, obv why I'm here.
I'm happy to hear of someone else my size with the same goals. I believe in you!
I worry that I might have a slow metabolism and therefore need to consume less than the recommended 1200 calories this app suggests, but I have no evidence of that and find it hard to hit 1200 most days so far anyway.
Would be cool to have a weightloss buddy, if you're interested we could message each other to check in and stay motivated?
My name is Mary. Nice to meet yah 😊

I find it best, if I log my food before I eat it, when possible.
