Why does the recipe input matcher not use the same database as other foods?

When inputting a recipe, I went so far as to scan each item using my phone and type in exactly (minus capitalisation) the name that showed up there into the recipe input on the computer. Yet over half the items did not match when the recipe was parsed!
Why are the names different between the two input mechanisms? Recipees are made from (often purchased) ingredients, so scanning barcodes to build a recipe sounds to me like the most obvious way to get accurate records of the ingredients.
Please make this work properly.
