Hi all, Im male 40yrs and on my path to get healthier and fit. I started 6 months ago with 229lb and now Im 197lb looking to be around 187lb.
For the past 6 months I have been consuming 1,500 Cal with 40% Protein, 30% Fats and 30% Carbs.
First 3 months I was doing only cardio (Threadmill) and 3 months ago I started to lift weights 4x week (split upper/lower) and still doing cardio 5 or 6x week. Easier on lift days, harder on rest days.
I have notice that my loosing weight rate has slowed down and suspecting that my cardio and my cal consumption are counteracting my lifting efforts, I do not see a lot of changes on my body muscle structure.
So.... Im planning, starting today, to increase at 1700 Cal consumption and keep macros same (40%P, 30%C, 30%F), also continue with lifting program (4x week) but cut cardio to just rest days, that will be 2 or 3x week.
Whats your thoughts on this plans?
Thanks

How much has your rate of loss slowed down? How much are you losing per week? It may be that your expectations aren't realistic. It's relatively typical for weight loss to slow down as we get closer to our goal weight.2

Thanks, at beginning I was loosing about 1.5 -2 lb/week. I know much of that was reteined water. Now 0.8-0.5lb/week.
Maybe my overall goal is changing and now Im not so worried about loosing weight as increasing muscle mass. Thats why Im thinking in to increase calories and reduce cardio.0 -
Yes, losing at a more moderate rate will help you retain the muscle mass you already have. With just ten pounds to lose, .5 pounds a week is a good rate of loss.2
