Time to leave excuses behind.

Hi all here is my little story  (was a bit longer then I expected)

Two and a half years ago I got married and the scale was doing a full circle (303lbs). I looked at my daughter and decided that if I wanted to walk her down the aisle something had to change. I tried a few things the following months and nothing worked. In late autumn I got the flu and couldn't keep anything down for 2 days. The 3rd day I was able to eat a bit, I took that as the catalyst I needed and started tracking with MFP. In about 2 months I lost 40lbs. I stopped tracking and a few months later I was at 280lbs. I've maintained that for a year.

I got on the scale at the beginning of November and I was at 290lbs, 10lbs gained in 2 weeks due to stress and worry (I'm a total emotional eater). That is when I told myself "enough with the excuses" and started tracking again. First few days were rough, but I pushed through. I started seeing progress and still made changes to the quality and quantity of the food I've been eating. I've cut sugar out, I try and focus on veggies and protein instead of carbs, and am trying a few different recipes I saw on here. My evening snack is now a bowl of Cheerios or popcorn instead of a bag of chips or bowl of ice cream. I find it surprising how full I am from so little food (I'm eating about half what I usually did).

Yesterday the scale said 265lbs and I'm on the last hole in my belt. As happy and proud I am of this, I was a bit worried, it is quite a bit in a short time, so I emailed my doctor to ask her about it. She said it was quite a bit, but should be fine as it is probably water retention but recommends 2lbs maximum a week (but a bit more is okay). She also suggested that I could go see the clinics dietician.

Yesterday I started on the elliptical. I was planning on doing 30 mins but ended up doing 15 instead. Happy that I did because I could already feel it in my legs going up and down stairs after. Being unfit and not exercising in a long time has taken it's course, but slow and steady is my plan. I'm going to add a bit of weight training to that also.

Reading the boards this AM I saw a few posts recommending a food scale, so I ordered one on Amazon. I've been basically guessing the size of portions.

My family have been pretty quiet about what I've been doing. I don't take it as good or bad. I'm going for a lifestyle change, it won't be easy, it will take time, but I'm up for the challenge.

Thanks for reading.

Questions:
-When you see 1 cup of rice, is it usually cooked or uncooked?
-My flexibility is awful right now, so any advice on stretches I could do to help with that would be awesome

any other tips and advice appreciated.

Starting weight: 280 or 290 however you look at it.
Height: 5' 8"
Age: 38
Goal: 220lbs and then see about dropping to 200lbs. Depends on how I look and/or feel.

Usually it is the uncooked weight for rice, 160 cals per 1/4 cup wild and 220 for white +/- . For fitness, recommend 5 mins on bike, then upper or lower (alternating days) then olyptical - start 10 mins only then each week add 5 mins. I recommend this eve work out. However am or mid day if you can do 15 min walk that will give metabolism,
Boost. Don’t forget to get a blood panel and also have vit d and blood sugars checked. Good luck. I’m not a trainer but have some heath promotions and nutrition training.

If you see 1 cup of rice listed as a serving size for one person, that's cooked. If it's a recipe to serve multiple people, one cup of rice would likely be uncooked.

I just wanted to say all the best in this weight loss journey, you sound like you already are doing great  and now that scale is ordered that will really keep your portions in check.

My main tip is not to demonize certain food groups, eat the foods you enjoy, track your calories/use that food scale - eating at calorie deficit consistently leads to weight loss.

Build up your stamina for exercise, that will give you added calories to eat and its great for your overall health/fitness and well being.

Oh and if you are a frequent weigher, use a weight trending app - because there will be ups and downs on that scale number regardless, and that's totally normal. The main thing is the overall trend is coming down.
