Seriously seeking support

Hi Communitiy! I’m stepping out of my comfort zone and asking for tips and support in my path to overall wellness. I am a type 2 diabetic and was told by my dr that I can only have 50 grams of carbs a day. What are some things you have tried that fit this parameter? I am finding that the vegetables (green beans, broccoli, onions, tomatoes(fruit)) that I eat have higher carb amounts than I would have guessed. I have to get busy on this because diabetes not only affects my body, it affects my mood negatively. Too much sugar and I’m emotional. Let me starve, I’m emotional. As my sugars get better my energy drops too and I feel sick. I hope this will get better over time.

Oh wow! That’s quite the restrictive circumstance. So sorry you have to deal with the emotional ups and downs with it too..!
This comes up on a search for low carb fruits and veggies.
I really suggest Pinterest for low carb lists and recipes as well..! That app is a Godsend...!
    Best of luck!!

Sheppard’s pie using mashed cauliflower-I only add a dab of almond milk when mashing it, no butter etc. I made a pan tonight and 1/4 of the pan had 19 g carbs (using ground chicken, 1 can corn-but you could use a different veggie, mashed cauliflower, cheddar cheese.

That's really hard! Maybe try only one or 2 servings of those higher carb veggies a day and focus on getting lower carb veggies the rest of the time? Green leafy veggies (kale, spinach) tend to be lower in carbs. 50 g of carbs is not a lot, so I understand your frustration.

I am a type 2 and I would find it very difficult to keep to such a low carb plan. It can be done though. Consider veggies to be a garnish size rather than a full serving.

Your meals will be high protein and moderate fat. Think large chicken breast size for portioning.

Focus your breakfast I suggest, on eggs. Eggs are lovely little packets of protein and vitamins. Greek yogurt is good too.

Don’t skip snacks. Eat every two hours during the day. On your low carb plan, beef jerky would work. Nuts are good too but watch your portion size because of the high fat.

Fats have the added advantage of being the slowest to metabolize so they will help moderate your highs and lows, improving your mood.
