I like how it is sponsored by the Ohio Pork Council and received bacon donations like they all sat around and said what can we do about young people not eating enough pork products. Vending machines are the answer!
I wonder how much bacon you get for $1?

I wonder if automats could make a comeback?

    Bacon - 2 slices, 80-100 calories
    Snickers - 250 calories

This is sort of a healthy alternative. Sort of is because I don't eat our fellow mammals and I am not sure about nutritional profile.

A modern automat opened near my work a year or so ago -- it's gone now. I don't think it lasted six months. But it may have been the food -- a lot of grain- and bean-based bowls, with lots of veggies. And the sad thing was that even though conceptually those types of dishes appeal to me, I didn't find the food there all that great.

Anyway, you would order at a touch screen and pay with a credit or debit card (I think it took PayPal too), and it would give you a number. Then you would wait by a wall with lots of little doors for your number to light up. They did generally have someone out in the ordering and eating space to help people order if they were new to the process, but everybody else was hidden behind the wall filling the orders.

I forget what it was called.
