Good morning everyone! My name is Kelly and I recently rejoined myfitnesspal. In the past I have had great success and am looking forward to the changes I am ready to make. Recently I have had some weight gain that has me extremely frustrated. The weight came on due to my ACL reconstruction surgery that I had on May 1st. I am now 7 months in recovery and overall doing really well. Due to the surgery there was a long period of time where I could not do any form of activity except physical therapy and that is not the same as a good workout! haha I have now "graduated" out of physical therapy and passed my return to run test. At this time I am working with an athletic trainer to build more strength and hopefully within the next month to 2 months I will be able to pass my return to sport test and really start getting back into the workouts I love. While I know I will still need to be cautious I am able to do more then just sitting now and I am SOOOOOO happy. I honestly did not realize the recovery that goes into an ACL reconstruction, it literally has been the most challenging thing mentally and physically I have had to face, and I still face it and will be for some time. They say a full recovery can take up to a year but it really is the first couple of years that are important. Anyway! haha I spoke to my doctor and athletic trainer this week and explained my frustration with my weight but my fears of my knee. They both assured me that I can take what I do in my training sessions and start doing those things and many other exercises on my own at home/gym. Most importantly they both said I need to build my confidence again, and I need to build it outside of my training sessions. While I did not fully realize it my trainer opened my eyes too that within my sessions I am doing agility ladder work, hops, 1 leg squats (even on my surgery leg), etc...he says that I have the foundation strength but to gain the full strength I need to do the maintenance outside of my sessions. Doing this while eating right will then transition into my weight loss.
In the end I am happy to be here and I am ready to take the steps to become healthier. Logging is going to be very important. It will help me become more aware of what I am putting in my body and how many calories I am actually consuming. I also have a polar watch that I am going to be wearing so I am aware of my movement and it will also track my workout sessions. I will be posting my journey through my page and throughout the boards, it will help me accountability.
My vision for my journey is balance. I do not like saying "I am not allowed to have that" or "that is off limits for me". I am a firm believer in moderation, portions, and the old fashion calories in verses calories out. My journey will be one that shows goals can be reached through balance, moderation, and without feeling deprived.
Looking forward to connecting with many through their journey and can't wait to build strength together! Feel free to add me!
