Anyone in the beginning tracking phase before modifying anything that wants to be friends and go through this together?

what do you mean by before modifying things? I am not new but haven't "modified" things other than updating my weight0

I am just tracking my food. I havent changed my diet or activity level. I am doing this for a few weeks to get mindful of what I am eating and to get through Christmas. They I am going to make small changes every so often. I am 390 lbs and I can't fail anymore.3

That sounds like a sensible beginning. So sensible, in fact, that I'm not sure how many others you'll find on that same track (vs. something kinda extreme). :flowerforyou:
I hope you do find some similar-path friends, though! (I'm in maintenance post-loss, so unfortunately I'm not a suitable candidate.)
Best wishes for great success!3 -
Yes that is a good idea. I did this before making any changes to my diet. You can't make changes until you know what needs changing.
I am half way through my weight loss so I hope you find some friends just starting out. You will find loads in the New Year2 -
Really smart way to start. I started that way long ago because I thought “why am I so fat? I don’t eat that much! I must have one of those special snowflake metabolisms I’ve heard of”. After a week or so of writing down consumed calories I thought “oh, so that’s why I’m fat!” It really was an eye opener. Then I set up my profile with the planned deficit, and off I went. Knowledge is power. All the best of luck to you.2

Great idea! That’s how I started as well. Because I also didn’t eat “that badly”. Quelle surprise when I was logging over 1000 calories a day of just coffee. And I don’t even drink fancy coffee!

Many people on here said it's the best way to start. I've failed every other way I have tried so why not.1

Just don't let this "phasing in" process go any longer than is necessary. Start studying your food diary every day and find ways to cut back now. If you're at 390, that is life-threatening.
No sense in waiting. Life and health aren't going to wait.

While you are going through this phase I highly recommend that you begin experimenting with your macros and food distribution to see what will help you stay satiated. The obvious place to start is with high and distributed protein. While you are logging make notes of when you seem to be hungriest so you can figure out what is working best for you.
Even without knowing your exact stats and goal weight it is not hard to figure out that you have 2 years ahead of you and probably a little more. What you really need is a handle on how to eat and stay full so that you are not hungry anymore than necessary. This may make it so that in time weight loss becomes a normal part of your day and not something you dwell on.
I just passed my own 10 month mark and while I can't say I haven't had some bad days I can I have had mostly good days and I did it with a break-in period similar to what you are starting. I used my time wisely and when I was ready to start I had a plan that has not only helped me lose a lot of weight so far but one that I actually like. I know what keeps me full. I know when to eat most of my calories. I know how to distribute my calories over a week so that on Sunday I always have more to spend which helps me greatly.

I just started about 2 months ago, and for the first month I did nothing but track. I weighed 245 and am looking to loose 100. Now I'm at gen stage where I play with the calories. The next stage is to actually change what I'm eating.
That last part is important because this is what I've learned the hard way. Loosing weight doesn't give you a new life. If I got down to my goal weight but still had the same low energy and health problems, I'd feel like I'd wasted my time.
Consider what you want to gain by loosing weight before making changes.0 -

390 certainly puts the OP in the yellow zone but it does not, by itself, put him in the red zone or a life-threatening situation. That is really for a doctor to decide after running various tests. The OP plans to start in a couple of weeks anyway and not much can be accomplished between now and then and plus the OP remain in the yellow zone for a very long time once he does start in earnest. This is a good reason to be under a doctor's care.
