Achieving Small Goals/Holiday Eating

Today, I weighed in at 265.6, which is 18 pounds less then I weighed around Thanksgiving this year. I don't want to eat up my calories during the holidays. Could anyone please share tips on how they survive the holidays with holiday eating? Thanks!

Congrats on your loss, that's fantastic! Keep doing what you are doing and give yourself a special day (or meal) vacation here or there. Make those days a treat, not a lifestyle and the weight will come off gradually. There is no secret trick to weight loss, there is only a new lifestyle to adopt. Long term weight loss takes patience and gradually changing your habits. If you indulge a little for one day, it won't wreck your goal at all. Just log your food accurately and stay a little under your calorie maintenance for more days than not through out the year.

Both Thanksgiving and Christmas, my plan has been to just eat. I did pretty well around Thanksgiving, but the days after Thanksgiving were more flexible than I intended. We got left with a lot of leftovers, though. For Christmas, I plan on NOT having leftovers and enjoying the day.

I do tend to wear my tight pants on indulgence days to remind me to enjoy the day but keep my eye on the goal. Then again, this year I’m a little more strict with myself than in previous years because I have a goal I’m really working towards.

Your weight loss over the past month is amazing. Remember, balance is key. Log every meal, drink and snack, and stick to your calorie plan. It may mean no mashed potatoes but an extra serving of veggies. And instead of cookies, have a peppermint pattie and/or Andes. Don’t cut it all out, substitute with something a bit better (lower fat/lower cal). You gotta enjoy it and that’s why cheat meals are built in to most diet plans. Good luck!
