Just started my BP meds, for elevated levels of 160/100 ish. Was given 240MG Cartia XT, generic for diltiazem. Read online reviews of weight gain and am worried. Hoping members here have lost weight while taking it. Thanks.

Not that one; I take a low dose of Lisinopril. I had hoped to be able to ditch it with weight loss, but I'm within the normal BMI range now and still need it.

160/100 is high enough to outweigh any worries of potential weight gain at this point, if the medication works to lower your bp. If it doesn't, sit down with your doctor and discuss alternatives. There are several other possible options.

I've had difficulty losing weight since I moved in with my OH and have been blaming him

But I also started taking Metoprolol about that time and wonder if it is increasing my appetite. I'm take it for heart palpitations, not high blood pressure, but it is a high BP medication.

I've been noticing that a 1.5 mile walk is harder for me than a longer walk with more hills was where I used to live.

...Doctors aren't sure exactly why some beta blockers cause weight gain. It could be that beta blockers slow your metabolism.

Yes. I’m on an ACE inhibitor for kidney protection — I’m a type 1 diabetic — and lose weight as expected, based on deficit from tdee.

I take quite a low dose of metoprolol (for migraine prevention, not blood pressure), and am losing okay - if anything I have been able to lose weight better since taking it as I feel much better which has led me to eating better and getting active.

Many different types of blood pressure pills - I was on amolodopamine and had to switch to losatran because of some side effects - feel night and day better and weight slowly coming off

@jo_nz how much metoprolol are you taking? I'm on 12.5 mg.

On a low dose of Antentol, weight loss has been difficult for sure. In winter the weight comes off, come summer i hold all the water. Drives me crazy. About to head back to Specalist to ask for something else. And I need to lose the weight to bring down BP too. Keep working out, drink water, eat heailtly, even with weight gain (which is often temporary) something has to give and eventually it will come off. It’s just slower, sadly!

Oh! Maybe my dose isn't all that low! I take 47.5mg per day.

A change in medication can cause a bump or a drop in weight but that is usually caused by water retention/loss. It doesn't mean it will happen to you and even if it does it has nothing to do with fat gain or loss. You still have to eat more calories than you burn to gain fat weight.

Yes my parents did, largely through eliminating high sodium foods that contributed to HBP. They were also on diuretics, but of course that was water weight loss. Any weight they regained (and they fluctuate) was from them being lax on their eating habits.
