Sedentary. Which by the way does not mean you're a couch potato, but in the context of calorie counting, sedentary means you're burning at the minimum of 300+ calories per day on top of what your body is burning everyday just to live (BMR).

These are numbers I have seen a few times

Sedentary below 5k (most people get positive adjustments after 3500)
Lightly active tends to be exceeded by 7500
Active tends to be exceeded by 11.5k or so
Very active tends to be exceeded by 15.5k

Factors used by MFP are: 1.25x, 1.4x, 1.6x and 1.8x BMR

Thanks for the numbers, I was wondering how exactly they calculate it, so someone like me for example with a 1717 BMR can be Sedentary and eat 2146 calories to maintain my weight ASSUMING I am burning 400 calories everyday from normal everyday life activities. That number is pretty big actually, I just came from the gym and burned less than 400 calories after 40 minutes on the elliptical machine and sitting behind the desk all day, some people might consider me active of I do 40 minute elliptical 7 days but I'd be just sedentary. people need to be careful and not set their setting to sedentary and laze about, sooner or later, those calories add over time.

Sedentary but your exercise isn't part of that. You log that separately and get an estimated amount of calories added to your base calorie goal.

It's worth making a conscious effort to become less sedentary by building more movement into your regular routine if your can.

Using a computer guess is just that. On many days I only walk about as many steps as you do, yet I am eating at the "Active" level if I use Myfitnesspal or other online guesstimations. They are just a starting point - your own data collection will tell you where to be after you've logged for a couple months. I find the online calculations to be way too few calories for me to maintain my weight.
