Big Fan of The Badass Body Diet

I have posted many questions on here about diet and exercise. I work out often and eat well. I was at a standstill it seemed in my weight and fitness until a little over a week ago. I got Christmas Abbot's Badass Body Diet book. I LOVE IT! It does confirm a lot of things I already knew but it takes things to the next level. Instead of working out every day, I am down to 3 days, eating more than I had before and losing weight and no joke, dropped a pants size just like that. I got a new pair of jeans today and I had to get them in a smaller size. Her meal plans are simple and her workout plans are awesome but hard. I saw a difference immediately. It all makes sense too. AND, I am not counting calories now. Just wanted to share my results. I have seen posts on here that the book is not worth it...I feel that it is. We all get stuck in a rut and this definitely shakes things up a bit.

I had to know, so I hit the Google.

Found this, for anyone else who is curious about the ESSENTIAL BOOTY FOODS
    WHAT ARE YOUR BOOTY FOODS?

Proteins + Carbs + Fats = Fat Burning

    Booty Proteins

Fish (omega 3, switch body into fat burn mode, fish first – poultry second)

Chicken and Turkey (development of body firming muscle – also turkey will help you avoid sugary excesses and stress eating)

Pork (a fat burner, skinnier waistline, thinner lower body, less body fat overall)

Beef (loaded with iron, increases blood flow for fat burning, B vitamins, protects muscle tissue, leads to higher metabolism, fat burning, weight control) **If your doctor has told you to cut back for health reasons (ex. High Cholesterol) be picky when you eat beef. Choose eye of round cut, sirloin tip, bottom round, top sirloin, 95% lean ground beef.

Eggs (yolks loaded with protein and taste great, cholesterol in yolks wont increase your bad LDL cholesterol, burn belly fat and all over body fat)

    Booty Fats

    Saturated and Mono-Saturated Fats

Saturated fat will come from your animal proteins. Don’t go crazy!! Saturated fat maintains testosterone levels (men and women have this) it helps burn fat.

Mono-saturated fats can actually reduce belly fat (even the visceral fat packed on your organs which links to many diseases like diabetes, breast cancer, heart disease and dementia. They are burned for muscle fuel and are great for exercisers. They will fill you up and keep you satisfied between your meals.

    Booty Carbs

You are going to detox on carbs in this plan. Body will begin to use fat as energy. Yes you will eat fruits and veggies and few starchy carbs like sweet potatoes (the only “acceptable” carb we are allowing you guys in moderation). There are enough fruits and veggies that you wont crave starchy and sweet foods.

NO ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS!! If you want me to justify why, please ask J

No beans either… it is a legume. What is a legume? Beans are healthy but contain lechtins which mimic the effect of hormones and lead to weight gain. They contain enzyme blockers that mess up our body’s ability to digest protein.

High Fiber is great to decrease estrogen levels.

    EXTRAS

Coconut water with whey protein powder for recovery shakes.

You can add unlimited amounts of herbs and spices as long as they have minimal salt.

Stay away from most sauces. Yes to dry rubs and spices.

Include dates to get your sweet fix. They are sweet as candy but one of the healthiest foods you can eat. Protein, fibers starch, fat, vitamins A, B, and C. Iron, sodium, phosphorous, calcium, sulfur. One or two a day to curb sweet tooth.

    COFFEE

Coffee is great at certain times. It is an appetite suppressant. Drink after meals. One cup then and no more until next meal.

No coffee after 4 pm. It can keep you awake and you need sleep. If you are sleep deprived you will have a hard time losing weight. It can also flush your body of important nutrients.

Have it black, no sugar or cream. Sugar is addictive and cream is a fat. Cream in your coffee compromises fat in your diet.

Try to reduce intake of coffee and other caffeine-containing beverages.

So, in summary, they're just regular foods with extra woo. You need fat, but you can't add cream to your coffee because "cream is a fat" and it somehow "compromises fat in your diet." Coffee is great at certain times, drink it after meals, but also reduce your intake of it. :|

You're going to detox from carbohydrates, but also eat carbohydrates.

No legumes! Because of lectins (which are also in the fruits and vegetables allowed on the plan).

Pork is a fat burner. Avoid sauces because . . . *shrugs*

    :| blank stare

So do Booty Foods give you a booty? Or are they treasure, like pirates booty?

OP, that's all a whole bunch of woo, and some of it is contradicting itself, but if following that plan helped you get into a calorie deficit more easily, I'm glad you found it! Not anything I could've ever done though, I broke like 80% of those rules while I was losing weight.

Yea I eat all kinds of things, even the "bad" ones to gain my booty and cut down. Not great advice IMO.

Question. If you're not counting calories, how do you KNOW you're in a caloric deficit? I'm not being a jerk, I honestly want to know.

I'm not OP but I use the scale. If my weight is going down with time, I know I'm in a deficit. (Also I've been at this so long that I just know based on how I'm feeling but that is not a way I would recommend to anyone!)

You won't know. I assume that cutting out all those nasty carbs will naturally create a calorie deficit for the people who find themselves successful on this diet. And people who overeat on pork and eggs and whatever else this diet calls acceptable foods will not be successful with this diet.

Like said above, if your weight is going down you're in a deficit. Counting is just a tool for weight loss, but not necessary. It's a good tool and makes sense for a lot of people, but my wife will drop 5 lbs without counting anything (she's a healthy weight).

I think you have to "reverse eat" the essential booty foods, like that South Park episode.

ALL I can think of is Booty booty rockin’ everywhere :D

Honestly I wish these diet fads could be regulated in some way. OP I’m glad this is giving you a boost and helping you stay motivated but please understand that this diet philosophy is a load of hog wash!

OK people, I knew I would get these types of responses. I was just sharing because it is working wonders for me. I don't follow her meal plan to the T. I do my own version but in the right percentages for me. Her workouts are awesome and I have seen my body change really fast. Nothing else has gotten me in this shape. It's not rocket science and it's really nothing new but I like her approach to it all. Her whole plan is to get you lean and a nice butt. Lots of squats and leg exercises. No, I am not counting calories...what I eat and how I exercise is working and the weight has fallen off. And...I still have some sweets. Chocolate in particular. Again, I was just sharing MY results. No need to beat me up over it.

And it's not a diet fad. It is a way of eating. Nothing crazy, nothing fancy...Easy and very sustainable. Much more so than what I was doing on my own. I actually eat now.

I'm making fun of the diet, not of you.

    You've done this one week.

You've cut down on starches. Do you know what impact that has on glycogen stores?

Do you realize what that sort of affect on glycogen stores has on the scale?

Honestly, I'm glad you found a way of eating you find satiating and workouts you enjoy, but this is all just simply a lower-carb meal plan with a lot of word-salad wrapped around it to repackage it as something new and different.

At the end of the day, you aren't losing fat unless you're creating a calorie deficit. And eating to appetite doesn't always get women, especially if they're shorter, where they wan't to be unless they count calories.

When I ate low-carb to appetite, I went from 180 to 150 and couldn't get any lower. 150 is still quite overweight for my height.

if the weight is falling off then you are in a deficit. could be a large one at that.getting lean means fat loss which also happens in a deficit.
