Obsessing and Feeling Like a Cartoon Character

I never know what the right response is when I start obsessing about a particular food that - for whatever reason - I have classified as a "no" or a "not now" food. I keep thinking about the same food and then trying to preoccupy myself with something else but it keeps coming back. Frequently, I start to eat other things that I've deemed "better for me" in order to substitute, but that doesn't usually work.

I feel like some stupid cartoon character whose eyes go all wavy as the thought bubble over their head shows what they want.

I'm frustrated because it makes me feel crazy when this happens and I don't find I can talk to anyone about it.

Oh yeah. I totally relate. Honestly... I just have some of it when it happens. But a little bit, if it's something unhealthy...

Learn to see food as what it is - not good, not bad, just food. Sometimes eating a small measured amount of the food you crave will take care of it. Denying yourself certain foods (in the long haul) will almost certainly doom you to cheating and bingeing. I plan for treats and foods that I really love. As long as it fits in my calories/macros for the day - what's the problem?

If at all possible have a little of what you are craving but in a very controlled way. I really like ice cream so in order to over indulge I would get a kids sized serving when out with the kids. Now I hardly crave it and have gone mostly vegan so have found other ways that satisfy my cravings. Popsicles can do the trick but when it won't I have found Almond Milk ice cream that feels like the real thing.

If you want a cookie have one..etc.
