Day 3 is MY HARDEST DAY

Over the past 8 months since I gained my weight back I’ve tried many times to get back into the groove of things! For some reason Day 3 is the MOST DIFFICULT day for me! It’s kinda my make it or break it day. Anyone else have a day in the beginning where you go back and forth? I’m determined today will be different!!!

Just log it anyway. Then day 4 will be a continuation, rather than a new day 1.13

The only absolutely essential thing you need to do on day 3 in order to succeed is to commit to day 4. Then 5. Then 6.
They won't all be perfect; just decide to make them gradually better.
The majority of our days determine the majority of our progress: Make the average day better, and your outcomes will improve. Other than that decision to keep going in an on-average positive direction, it's never one day that "makes or breaks" this type of life improvement.10 -

I came on here looking to post exactly the same thing!
I know the theory of just keep logging but somehow it's like a black mark and I NEED to start again!
About 6 years ago I lost a load of weight (and kept it off for a few years!). I thought having done it before I could do it again... In fact, I thought that because I had done it before it would be easier but I just can't get into the groove!
Here's to hoping I'll still be here in 2 weeks!2 -
I'm on day three also. I just made my husband a cocktail and it was so hard resisting a gulp of it. I'm usually a wine every night kinda gal. But just like you, I've done it in the past, and I know I can do it again. We've got this!0

You cared enough to start day 1 and you've made it to day 3. That is further than many get. Seriously. Use MFP as a tool and allow the support to help get you through. You have to do it, yes.... but the support goes such a long way. Believing in yourself will get you far! You can do it!!1

In business there is a concept called "sunk cost". It deals with the fact that businesses (and individuals) often make decisions based on what they've already spent on something that is not really relevant to the current decision. For example, when there is an opportunity to invest in a project that is likely to be a net positive value on that cost, they may not do it because they are losing on another project that is not relevant. They'll lose potential gains because they base their decision on something that is sunk anyway. A basic key for successful business and successful personal finance is not to avoid ever having sunk costs, it's to recognize them and not use them for future decisions.
How does that relate?
In this process, what I did yesterday has zero bearing on the individual decisions I make today. If I overate by 1000 yesterday, it doesn't make my decision to forgo the cookies today any less valuable to me. Make today's decisions today. Yesterday's and tomorrow's are their own. We can't do anything about yesterday's and can't do anything about tomorrow's. Do today.
The other thing that matters is perspective. My calorie goal is 1800. If I plan to lose 1 pound per week with that goal, that's a weekly deficit of 3500. If I overate by 1000 on one day, then I might lose 2/3 of pound of fat that week. Not that big of a deal. Why? Because my overall goal works over the aggregate over time. And my goal is not a specific weight number - it's the process of becoming healthy. The further into this you go, the less concerned you'll be with the scale numbers and the more concerned you'll be with maintaining healthy eating habits for the long-term.6 -
A plan always has a contingency. If you miss a day, go the next. If you sick don't beat yourself up, get well and get back at it. If you have to travel, do something simple to keep you on track if your lacking access to a place to exercise or get a good meal. If you moving in the right direction and don't let the road blocks stop you, you will arrive at your destination. Good Luck!1
