I think protein is causing me gas

I’ve been eating protein shakes and bars recently, however I’ve been coming home after work with terrible gas. I’m just wondering is this normal? Does my body get used to it or do I need to stop eating these products? Any advice would help.

Check the products for sugar alcohols. Major bloaters.

I too find this with my Promasil Vanilla protein powder. If I have it a few times a week, I'm ok I think it's the whey in it

Sugar alcohols are very likely, and other possibilities are whey, some react to dairy, even without lactose, or soy or some other ingredient.

    Unlikely to be simply protein.

Another vote for sugar alcohols as a possible culprit. Many people have digestive symptoms when they eat these things, and they’re common ingredients in some protein shakes/bars. Here is a list of ingredients to check for: http://www.diabetes.org/food-and-fitness/food/what-can-i-eat/understanding-carbohydrates/sugar-alcohols.html

Try a different brand - I had to experiment with a few until I found powder and bars that did not give me “issues”. Nothing worse than gassy tummy when you’re about to squat! 😂

I have that issue if I bump my protein up suddenly; very similar to bumping up fiber. It does take a while for it to normalize.

And, as stated already, sugar alcohols can do it as well. Varying brand may help.
