Has anyone else found weight from Christmas appeared a few weeks after?

I was amazed over the Christmas period I gained zero weight at the time. I overate.
Today sudden weight gain, I haven’t been overeating or adjusted carb intake. My trousers all felt tighter. Do you think it’s true that weight gain can take a while to accumulate. I certainly haven’t been overeating over the past week or so.

Could it be cycle-related? Lots of women gain 5 -10 lbs of temporary water weight during their TOM. Also, any new exercise or a meal higher in sodium will increase water weight and then dissipate a few days later.3 -
You may be into something - it’s not my cycle - best time of the month for weight in that sense. Have massively increased exercise in contrast to Christmas period. Ie not cycling ten miles a day was doing nothing over Xmas...0

Likely water retention for muscle repair, then, especially since you ramped it up.3 -
Interesting - I didn’t think of that!0

Make sure you're staying well hydrated and give it a few days.0

It also depends how often you weigh yourself. Believe it or not if you weigh yourself several times in the same day the scale will give different results. This is largely due to water retention (both men and women).
Just make sure when you weigh yourself you do it once a week (or less if you prefer) and stick to the same time and day. That's the best method for consistency.6 -
I still weigh myself every day. First thing in the morning after using the bathroom. I find that by doing this, the daily fluctuations became 'normal' and nothing to freak out about, and it was easier to map trends that way.
But I'm a data geek, so...5 -
It usually takes a while for me to see changes on the scale.1

Weighing daily is fine, it teaches you when your body retains water. The key is to not freak out about every rise in weight and look at the bigger trend (at least 6 weeks) for progress.4 -

Not for everyone. I weigh myself daily and use a trend weight app. If I weighed once a week I could be losing weight but it could read the same weight weekly because of my refeeds which could be discouraging (for me). Different methods work for different people.2
