HI, I just found this site yesterday while on my iPad and on a whim looked for a calorie counter app. And here I am. Signed up immediately.
I was always skinny growing up and never had a weight problem until about 40. Then the thyroid started acting up (and age) and even on meds I've slowly put on around 50 pounds. I know I could eat better, but I've never considered myself a BAD eater. I only occasionally use gravy, dressings, dips, sauces,...... I quit having a chocolate stash at work and quit having chips with my work lunch. Sandwich and a yogurt, sometimes a cheese stick, some veggies for crunch. And nothing changed..... Okay, I will fess up. My weakness--I Love popcorn (have tapered that down to 1-2 times a week) and I drink too much diet coke. But water for supper and evenings.
As nearly empty nesters, we do eat out often. Again, I try to cut back---a filet for steak, just sour cream on potatoes, lemons instead of dressing, chicken and hamburgers plain, yes, I know I have to get rid of the fries. I guess, I have just been in denial as I never had to watch my food until menopause. Sigh.
I know I need to make more changes---so here I am. And I am hoping that logging in my intake will make me See what I need to change.
As for exercise, I am a teacher so am always active at work, and I walk a few times a week. We'll see if I can change that. Having a 2 year old grandson in my home helps too, but again, nothing changes...Sigh, just too tired to do much more after a full day of kids.
So now it's time to get off the excuse/whining box!!
See ya all around!

Hi! I was quite shocked at what I was eating when I started logging everything. eVERYTHING! Peri-menopause has been hard on me and, though I alway worried and was never skinny, hormones have played an enormous role in my weight gain. You are in a good place to make the changes you now have to make. Welcome!0

Hi there. I've never been a skinny mini and growing up I was picked for being "rotund" even though I enjoyed doing a variety of sports including running (both track and cross country) karate, aerobics and cycling. Once I left school I got married and had children at the ages of 21 and 23. I ate whatever I wanted because I though I've got children to run around after now but the weight piled on. Things went badly and my husband and I divorced and I married again 4 years later and had my 3rd child. My weight had ballooned to over 15 stone and for someone who's only 5' and 3.55" that's a bit too porky!! We too unfortunately divorced 3 years ago and this year I turned 40. I always said that I never wanted to be fat and forty lol.I'm single now and am in definite need of finding some confidence so i signed up to Slimming World and my start weight was 14st 10.5lbs. I lost almost 2st in just over 2 months but then it all stopped and for the last 3 months I've struggled to lose another 12lbs. Someone told me about this app so I thought I'd give it a go
) I'm still getting my head round everything in particular having to eat the calories you burn lol. So here goes I guess......first weigh in is on Thursday so hopefully it'll have kick started my weight loss again......fingers crossed
)
Good luck to everyone on here with their journeys xx0 -
I am a newbie as well but I have had the MFP app for a while. I looking to make some friends to create a better support system for myself & others. So feel free to hit me up & leave some good tips, reciepes or whatever's positive. And I will do the same. Good luck everyone. Also looking for a good workout gym & hopefully a good workout buddy in the New Jersey area, preferrably in Jersey City. Thanks!0

Thanks Everyone! I appreciate the support! It will be interesting as I log in my intake to see what I'm doing wrong. I know too many carbs.... so I am going to give this thing a whirl.
Wishing ALL here success!0 -
